Sherwood Airgunners Match report for June 21,2020
I am very pleased to report that Sherwood Airgunners has had their first official Field Target Match Sunday June 21, 2020. There has been alot of hard work in preparing the lanes and getting things ready by their members for there first ever match. I would say the work they have put in was very noticeable with a smoothly run match with only a few minor target problems.
There was a total of 20 participants. I am pleased to report Ron Heckathorn, Ken Deisch and Gary Rudolph shot in their first ever Field target match and really enjoyed the challenge. Lucas Marusiak was our lone youth shooter and it was great seeing his enthusiasm and love for the sport as well as the support he gets from his father and grandfather! This course had a Troyer rating of 32.17 before any wind or lighting factors were accounted for. The thick underbrush and heavy canopy with variable lighting definately came into play for the shooters in this mostly wooded course. We were blessed with great weather with temps in the high 80's. The course was set up with lanes fairly far apart so we can easily maintain social distancing with a hand sanitizing station on the course.
The PCP Hunter division had 12 shooters with Jeff Little coming out on top with a excellent score of 57. Jeff shot his new RAW TM1000 and Sightron 10-50x scope. Coming in 2nd was Donny Reed with a score of 50 while Rick Smelko was close behind for 3rd with a score of 49. Donny and Rick both shot there Daystate Wolverine R's which is a very popular rifle on the FT course. It was great to see our youngest shooter Lucas Marusiak shooting in this class with his Daystate Huntsman.
In Springer hunter division we had 6 shooters with veteran Field target shooter Daniel Putz leading the way shooting his Walther LGV with a score of 39. Nick Lawrence and Al Duster tied for 2nd and Al Duster came out on top after a very interesting and fun shootoff. Al has a flare for the dramatic and his personality shined strong during the shootoff....great to see the laughs he provided! I want to add Vince Alessi had equipment issues but generously donated his entry fee to the club...thankyou for your support Vince!
Tyler Patner was the only participant shooting PCP WFTF but he showed why he is one of the most respected shooters in the country shooting his Thomas FT carbine/Nightforce ATACR combo to a Match high score of 57. Very well done and I have to say Tyler somehow makes this look very easy!
Keith Walters shot PCP open division and shot a score of 50 shooting his Thomas FT carbine topped with a Leupold comp 35x.
I want to thank everyone that came out to Sherwood for this anaugural match and certainly hope to see everyone again in the near future. I appreciate the feedback that was given and hope to please everyone with a well run safe challenging course. There is still tshirts available if anyone needs one. Again thankyou for supporting Sherwood Airgunners and hope to see everyone soon!
