Sherwood Airgunners Match report for May 7, 2023

What was a promising forecast early in the week turned into a wet morning for our first Field Target match of the 2023 season. Because of the high percentage of rain we delayed our match a few hours which ended up being a very good call. With 8 die hard FT shooters willing to get a little wet they were rewarded with some decent shooting conditions after dealing with some rain for the first few lanes. With only 8 shooters we were able to all start in our heavily wooded lanes which helped keep us from the light shower which ended shortly after we started. All the targets for every lane were painted one yellow and one orange and helped with the darker conditions because of the heavy clouds and growing folliage. We shot on the parking lot side of the course which basically is on top of a ridge and we are now calling this Sherwood Highlands. Doug Cunningham and Tom West mowed a small field on this course which we were able to make a few more lanes on and which will certainly cause a few misses on some windier days. Everyone liked shooting this section of the Highlands and certainly were glad we didn't have much wind to deal with on this day.

We had 4 shooters in Hunter PCP and Justin Roberts proved once again he's a top competitor in this very popular class shooting a 58/60. Congratulations Justin there's no knocking any rust off this spring I see! I have to give a big shout out to Dan Putz who is dealing with a eye problem and shot the match left handed although he is RIGHT handed. I would have thought he would have done terrible but Dan shot a very impressive 53/60 dealing with this HUGE handicap. We certainly hope and pray Dan gets better soon ♥️🙏🏼.

In Open PCP Keith Walters shot a 56/60 to top Ted Andro who was right on his heals with a 54/60. Great shooting Ted glad to see you got things sorted out.

Eric Jones was the only spring piston shooter and shot a 34/60.

I did save the best for last and glad I got to witness this beast of a FT shooter Tyler Partner do his thing and clear the course! That's right 60/60 for Tylers first match of the year. I am beyond estatic for anyone that accomplishes this feat but it really was great to see a good friend and competitor do it while I shared the lanes with him. It's one of the biggest accomplishments in FT shooting for sure!

The Highlands course was set up at a 29.85 Troyer rating and had 11 targets over 40 yds and multiple small KZ targets. Not a pushover but a good course to start our Field Target season.

After the match I showed a few of the guys our new course on the club house side of the road which will be known as Sherwood Hollow. With this quick walk through I seen the enthusiasm I was hoping to see from some top FT competitors that seen a course that is very unique and unlike anything they have ever shot. I am very excited to have another course that is very different than our Highlands course for people to enjoy.

So thanks for the guys that came out and sorry to Skip Tenney and Russ Jackson who made the trip but decided not to shoot because of the weather. I'm sure better weather is ahead for us FT shooters in Ohio.

Match Director,
KeithWalters
