Sherwood Airgunners
September 22, 2024 Field Target match.
Sherwood Airgunners had their final Field Target match of the 2024 season Sunday September 22,2024. For the last match of the year since the World Field Target Championship is in Mesa Arizona this fall we decided to have a World's Style match. Basically that's one shot per target instead of our normal two.
So Doug, Tom and I set a course that consisted of 20 lanes with 3 targets per lane each shot once. We did our normal shot sequence which is shooting from near to far. I have to tell you setting up for this particular style of match was a very daunting and tiresome job. We normally put out 30 targets each shot twice for a 60 shot total. This format we had to put out 60 targets which meant for alot more moving of blocks to set the targets on as well as putting up additional tree stands with removable straps. When Doug and I were finished laying out this course we were both shot!
I have to say while shooting this course I as well as numerous others really enjoyed this format. I was told the match just seemed to flow better, take your one shot at the target and move on to the next.
We had 13 shooters at this World's Style match with only one category Hunter PCP with enough shooters to hand out awards. Ryan Spanagel shot a 51/60 with his Daystate Redwolf to secure 3rd place. Brandon Michaud shot a 52/60 for 2nd place shooting a Daystate Wolverine. In 1st place was Doug Cunningham with his Thomas Air rifle for the win in Hunter PCP. All three of these guys placed on the podium last weekend at Pyramyd Air Cup and continue their excellent shooting….well done guys!
The rest of the divisions did not have enough entries for awards but here is the scores of those classes. In Hunter Piston Al Duster shot a 33/60. In Open Piston Dan Putz shot a 45/60. In Open PCP Larry Gromacki shot a 55/60. Lastly match high score was shot by yours truly Keith Walters with a 56/60 shooting his Rapid Air Weapons TM1000.
The weather was great with high temps in the mid 80s with occasional gusts of winds that would keep us on point with our wind calls. Also while some fall leaves are falling their was plenty of shadows for some darker lanes that made ranging more difficult. All in all a great fall day on the FT lanes at Sherwood Airgunners.
Lastly I'd like to thank everyone that came out today as well as this Field Target season to support Sherwood Airgunners. This has been our 4th year shooting FT at Sherwood and it just keeps getting better. Having our first Grand Prix was a HUGE success and we look forward to our next. I also want to thank my crew at Sherwood in no particular order, Doug Cunningham, Tom West, Dave Campbell, Jerry McCombs and Carl Lucas as well as others who have helped us this year and there has been quite a few. I appreciate all you do for the club and for FT in Ohio, you have made Sherwood Airgunners a great place to shoot Field Target in Ohio! Well done my friends!
Sincerely
