Shipping a hard case

Thanks all for confirming common sense . I do not have the original box but do have access to cardboard, I work at the dump😄.
One thing I've learned about air gunners, they are packrats....generally...they keep EVERYTHING, boxes, shipping labels, stacks of empty pellet tins, whatever. Personally I'm still looking for a case for my Maverick VP and my compact, my issue is...I don't want to remove the moderators call it superstitious. I've got the darn things working and I'm not messing with them.

It’s not bad protection for shipping but make sure you add additional padding to keep the gun from shifting around. And reinforce the barrel end. I got a gun once where the barrel had broken through that end of the case. Shipper assumed the foam inside would be good enough. Fortunately my beautiful Webley Tomahawk wasn’t damaged.
Place a gun in the center of a foam lined case. Then pick it up and shake it a little bit. Now open the case and guess what? Your gun is at the bottom. It moved. Not good enough!

the best way to ship a rifle is in two pieces
if the stock is not on the action the chances of the stock being damaged is almost 0%
the cheap Plano case are just that and as one poster said shack the case and you would find the rifle will slip-fall to whatever side is down
you can build your own box and or just the liner the rifle sits in so you end up with a rifle in a fitted liner inside a box
and of course this takes time and cardboard and i always used wood glue, over kill, sure
but as the wrapper and shipper of a rifle you have to make sure it will make it and we all know many do not
my suggestion is take apart and have two boxes

The heavy cardboard angle that comes on new appliances is really good for reinforcing shipping boxes. Check that stuff out. Prevent pistol grip breaks. That and foam carpet padding around the gun is pretty hard to beat. Always reinforce the barrel end with layered cardboard and make sure there is no wiggle inside.. Fill gaps with rolled up cardboard. You're finished when you know it will survive being thrown down the steps.

Always ship UPS
Well yes it have worked for me so far, but right now, on behalf of Customs i assume UPS have nicked my shipment of 4.5 mm pellets and slugs from Krale.
But okay the same order have gone strait thry at other times, but now its been 2 days since the parcel was supposed to have been delivered and its now in their "warehouse"

OT. I would never just ship a case like that, must have some form of camouflage on it in form of a cardboard box.

Always ship UPS with expensive things. They pay their employees well and things don't go missing as much.
My UPS store refused to ship a scope I needed to have repaired because it was a "gun or gun part".
Needless to say UPS does not get my business. And what annoyed me was another scope arrived via UPS the next day!
FedEx took the package without question so now they get all my shipping business.

I would stop by the local sporting goods store and see if they had a box you could have.
Never ship without a box these days.

It's probably a privately owned pick up store. Blame the owner. When I make my own labels and drop items off at a store like that they don't even ask me anything.

If somebody ships a gun to me I never want them to remove the stock. Half the guys will do damage to the screws or something. Especially if it has slotted screws. I'd rather have it packed well in one piece than buggered. When some guys pick up a screwdriver it somehow transforms into a chisel.
