Very true.It all depends on what air gun vs. what powder burner I know for myself I'm getting more "bang" (no pun intended) with my air guns.
PCPs are pricey, so are compressors and tanks and scopes. But once those are bought, there's only pellets (or slugs) to buy. The airgun that I've shot the most has over 22,000 pellets through it. Imagine the price tag for shooting that many 9mm or .223 or whatever other firearm caliber you'd like to compare it to. And that barrel in the 22,000 pellet gun is perfectly fine, not shot out and needing a rebarrel like it would on a powderburner.
Just googled and see that a 1000 rounds of bulk FMJ .223 Rem ammo is listed at $390. 22,000/1000 = 22 boxes of this "bulk" example. 22 boxes x $390/box = $8580. The airgun I've shot the 22,000 out of was using JSBs, bought 5 or so years ago, when a 500 ct tin was down around $10-12 bucks. Lets call it $12/tin. 22,000/500 = 44 tins. 44tins x$12/tin = $528.
Just one example
Getting set up in airguns is pricey, but the actual shooting part of it is MUCH cheaper than burning powder. Especially if you really like to shoot. Not to mention that ability to do it inside city limits, in your backyard, without blowing out your eardrums and getting a sore shoulder, etc.
