Shooting at home

Here's my Target set up at home or one of them. This one is 30yds to the target pictured in the background. I use the kitchen Island as a bench shooting through an open window the other is 50yds and outside from fence to fence. The backstop is a Horse stall mat that was cut into sections doubled up with a space between (2x4). If a slug penetrates the first layer it bounces between the two layers and lands on the ground to be gathered up and melted into lead ingets.

Great concept ..
Tho said can't say the neighbor beyond the back fence would be thrilled if aware of your shooting in ANY manor towards his home & property
That's his shop shed and I usually only shoot during the weekdays. that mat is 18x36 so if the lead can't hit that there's a problem lol.

What's the FPE on your .30? I have some old horse mats laying around that now have a purpose. Initially I thought they wouldn't be thick enough, but physics prove that adding the 2x4 space will stop it. I'll still add a 1-1/8" thick plywood to the very back and carpet in front for good measure and quietness.
I am not sure what the FPE was I didn't have that .30 long and just traded it. There is 3/4 wood behind the mats.

Ok, then I guess I will give it a try and report back for future users. Hopefully get it built this week in between work and chores. Thanks for the reply. Ill be shooting close to 120 FPE in .35
The mats are two fold for me one being the sound deadening Plywood is pretty loud getting hit and the second being the ability to stop penetration with the second mat. I will tell you this I do not shoot low power they bounce right off that mat.
