A few things come to mind. The brightness/reflection from the snow is the first. Like others said, the mirage. I shoot from my upstairs window and a heat register is just beneath it. Even with the register closed it gets very blurry.
 
I used to love this for learning drop, the relevance of bc in same weight, various shapes of Diablo and imperfections. The direct affects of wind on the pellets and receiving Instant visual POI reports from otherwise hard to see .177-.25 Diablos. Iron sights were fun and it’s very easy to see them transverse the gap.
