Shooting shed ideas

What size are you thinking about and how elaborate do you want it? You can sometimes find a small or large used storage building for much less money than you could make it yourself. Facebook and Craigslist are good sources for that. You could also pick up one of the metal ones you put together yourself, but a wooden structure would be better. It’s not a building but below is a picture of a shooting bench I made that will accommodate two right handed shooters. You could put something similar inside if you wanted a solid platform to shoot from.

I like the use of the large wooden wire reels that you get at the utility companies for an easily moveable blind/shooting shack. Utilize the top and bottom of the reel for the floor and roof, and screw 7' long slab wood from the sawmill to the sides to enclose it. Add a door and shooting slots and roll it around to various locations in the woods or fence rows then stand it up. Deer and other animals (including the two legged variety) look at it like a giant tree stump from afar.

Damn, that's a nice bench!!

I'll second the cargo trailer idea.

My wife and I bought a little 5x8 about 12 years ago when we were moving a bunch for school. For a couple years after school I used it for storage of seasonal stuff until I decided that it's make a great little camper.

I ended up putting a little wood stove in one of the back barn doors and have shot out of it (non wood stove door open, stove door shut) quite comfortably when it's been raining.

Up until recently I could shoot out the back door of my garage and be out of the weather. The new property isn't set up for that so I'm imagining I'll be spending some time shooting out of the trailer with a nice hot fire going for winter shooting sessions. Yeah, I'll lose some heat with the door open but the stove is really overkill to begin with. I've had it up to 87 degrees inside on a below freezing camping trip.

Without turning it into a complete camper I can still use it for a utility trailer. In fact, right now it's loaded with a set of couches and all the new lights and fans for the new house, just waiting on drywall and paint.

Makes a good case for multi use camper, storage, shooting shack, etc.

He's some pics.

First one is at a field target match. Cot down one side for me to sleep on and bunk bed sort of thing hanging from the roof ribs for a place to sleep for my boy. You can kinda see that inside here.

Stove install pics from a few years ago. For travel I just take off the sections that stick out the little access door I installed. I keep those sections of pipe in a five gallon bucket. Sometimes for ft match weekend camping trips I'll swing the door out and cook dinner on the top of the stove like a chuckwagon kinda setup. Also really nice to throw a couple little pieces of wood in there in the morning and jump back into the sleeping bag while it gets toasty. Yes the install was a couple hundred bucks but it's already been far worth it and will continue to prove its value when it's my nasty weather shooting shack at the new property. In fact, I was shooting today in 32 degree weather and sure would have liked to be in my heated trailer shooting out the back door.

Very nice double shooting bench.

Some great ideas guys! I guess what I'm envisioning is a place I can have a full bench that I can fit my air tank and tools for tuning. Also fully enclosed to keep it out of the elements but have flaps on front and sides that flip up for airflow when it's hot but for extra cover if it's raining or snowing. Cold doesn't bother me I dress for the occasion and have clothes that keep me warm in well below freezing temps l. Will be a permanent thing I setup in my backyard. It'll be in place of this that I have now which is great for what it is but cramped and not as stable as I'd like it to be. Guns shown are 38" and 32" and show there's not much room. I think I'm gonna go with something about 4' wide by 6' long.

Looking to get some ideas for building a little shed I can shoot out of in not so nice weather.

My friend James solved his problem with this. We will finish it out with all the comforts you will need (with a prone shooting deck out the upper window for clear shots out to 230yds).

Just a thought till you make something better, clamp a longer piece of plywood to the top of your bench. It would give you a longer top for the bi-pod to rest on.
