Shooting stick - what do you use for HFT?

Been looking at the Gen 3 Primos Trigger sticks, I assume the smaller 18 to 38 inch size would be preferable over their 24 to 61 inch? I have also been looking at the Bog Pods but it seems like they would take longer to get up to the right height with the leg twist locks. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Get a yardstick & see how the heights of both, the short & tall, would fit into how you expect your shooting position to be most of the time. The shorter version has limited use for myself as I'm usually hunting from a blind with a seat or I'm sitting on a big, comfortable, log. The taller one adjusts to within 6 inches of the shortest height of the short one, but has extra weight to haul around. Keep us posted

Bog pod. I’ve adjusted the legs about 4” out, that way I can open them all the way for close shots or close them for long shots without feeling to wobbly. Most of my shooting is in the field at our tournaments, so I can cover from 10 to 55 yards. No need to adjust unless you are shooting at tree targets at extreme angle.

I use a BogPod CLD-2 which has lever locks instead of twist locks . It's sturdy, solid and reliable. I never got on with the trigger sticks because it seemed the head was always trying to flop one way or the other.

The 18-38 trigger sticks are as good as it gets. If you get on a course with a lot of elevated targets it can be a pain adjusting each leg for height on the cheaper sticks.

Just so you know, a tripod isn't legal in HFT, just non attached bipods of some sort, like a two legged shooting stick system.

That's what I ended up buying, will give it a try at a meet today.

The short version of the Gen 3 trigger stick works ok but you really have to torque down the hex screw in the head to prevent it from tilting. But my rig weighs over 16#s so ymmv. Uj

I did find that tilting problem today, I usually could reposition either the gun or the bipod to minimize it, but I do wish it was more solid in the head. Today was my first meet ever, so hopefully with a little more practice I can get feeling more comfortable with it.
