Shooting the 17 red šŸŗ this summer at 240 - Results

I had a chance early this summer to shoot the red wolf and various other rifles at 235 and 240 yards. Experience some absolutely fantastic conditions a couple nights right at dusk. Below are the resulting targets. They are either five or 10 shot targets. If you think itā€™s hard to keep that last, fifth shot snuggled in your group at 100ā€¦

I was shooting my red wolf 177 on high power, with NSA 15 grain slugsĀ šŸŒ. Scope is a beautiful March, recoil is almost nonexistent. It sounds like a young girl farting when it goes off. The trigger on this rifle is the best Iā€™ve ever had on any rifle. It was tuned for Airgun an Nation, for a giveaway.

Enjoy the pictures of the groups, I promise you I enjoyed shooting them. They were plenty of mosquitoes around back then, and Iā€™m sure I ateĀ a few of them with my jaw hanging open in disbelief.

The comments that you see I make below, weā€™re from previous posts, if they seem out of context.

Try the 15 and 12.5.Ā
mike

Thanks, I have a few boxes of 12.5. I don't care to try 15 or 20 grain because the 1:18 twist rate on the FX barrels are a little too slow for 12.5 already and the 0.005(0.07 to 0.075) increase in BC isn't worth the trouble of less stabilization than already suboptimal stabilization from the slow twist rate. Hope FX will come out with a heavy liner with 1:12 twist rate for 177 soon but for now I know 12.5 has descent potential from the current 1:18 twist superior barrel with BC compromised by only around 7% or adjusted BC of 0.065.Ā Stability factors are 1.23 vs 1.06 for 12.5 vs 15 respectively at sea level with speed of 900 fps. The 12.5 grain is marginally stabilized but the 15 grain is at the edge of unstable so I don't see any good results would come out of trying 15 grains.Ā

My goals is to shoot the 12.5 in the lower 900FPS range with reg at 150 bars and relatively low hammer force to have as little muzzle turbulence as possible due to lack of valve adjustment like Impact.Ā

However I do have a 500mm heavy barrel in .22 that I might switch over one day from my impact to the crown so I won't have stabilization problem with slugs. I might do that as soon as I run out of 177 slugs. With the slow twist rate limitation i'm not sure how much time and money I want to pour into 177 until they have a heavy liner with proper twist rate.Ā
