Short barrel .30 or .25???

I'm planning to order Dreamline Compact. Initially, I was thinking of getting .30 and cut barrel to 380mm.

Idea is to get short backpack friendly hunting gun.

But magazine is not that deep, it means slugs will be kind of short and chubby, with short barrel not sure how it will work.

Should I go with .25? Slugs would be relatively longer compared to diameter, bit lighter, bit faster.

I'm not interested in long-distance, it will be used 40-50 yards max, raccoons, coyote, fox.

Which one would you recommend, heavier but slower .30 or lighter and faster .25?

Edgun Leshyi owners, any input? it's also short and not super powerful

Thanks,

AZ

I have the leshy in .30 it’s able to launch a polymag over 900fps but takes 30bar a shot. I have mine shooting them at 600 FPS for under 50yd shooting. Less than 10bar a shot. It’s pretty badass what power the leshy can produce.
my taipan shorty in .25 launching 33.95s at 835fps. I have a fx Dreamline compact it’s not close to the power a leshy can produce stock. If single shot is ok and back pack friendly I’d go Leshiy with the 1/2 by 20 adapter I had to loctite the grubscrews tho. On the 25 vs 30 I’ve been thinking really hard on selling my taipan and only keeping .22 and .30 calibers only.

I was looking at Leshyi but I can't stand single shot, tiny tank and offset silencer (especially in $1500 price range)

Was reading at Russian forums people are getting single-digit shot count at max power

So far, Dreamline Compact is the closest contender to Leshyi for a really compact, hunting, back-pack friendly option.

Foldable stock, 480cc carbon tank, multi-shot

I have two full-size bullpups - Pulsar .25 and Pulsar HP .30 (by no means those are light and compact)

I need something smaller

Yes, I was looking at Lelya closely, same as with Leshyi, I know how much they cost in Russia, I'm not ready to pay 70% mark up.

I almost placed an order on Raptor mini, but they are much slower than they promised, some customers already waiting for months for delivery.

It's still a new company not that much information not even clear how it will work in the long run.

FX with all hickups, it's a huge company with widely available spare parts, a huge amount of info on tunes and extreme flexibility in barrels and liners.

Especially Dreamline - you can change calibers, tanks, stocks you can even shoot arrows if you wish

Well, first of all, Russian prices are not a secret.
They are shown at our website.

Second, our rifles in Russia sells without any export/import duties.
When we send our rifles abroad, we declare them from the both sides, pay all the duties, freight, customs brokers' expences, currency exchanging etc.
And, of course, the rifles become more expensive because of that.

Wanna buy them in Russia? You may try.
But none of our Russian dealers will sell it to you.

They are prohibited to do that.

Of, course, you may come to Russia and buy it there. For the lower price.
But, let's count: tickets, hotel and (95% for sure) - BIG problems at our customs, when you try to take it off the country.
So, it would cost MUCH MORE!

The impact compact has an 0ver all length of 25" and a barrel length of 500 mm (19.685" ). It's the true bull pup with the breech about 4" form your shoulder. But we don't know when it will be available. Now the compact TAC has the 380mm barrel and the folding stock with a length of pull of about 14". This is not a bull pup design. several air gun stores have sold them. and more are coming. airguns of utah had some in and You'll have to pre order it from them. Try them all. Pyramyd, airgun depot, the one in florida etc. I do not remember the overall length of the dreamline compact nor it's barrel length. And you could install the folding stock from the dream line tac on it to make it more back pack friendly. I want the compact Impac for the 500mm barrel, 300cc air tank, and the high capacity magazine, 26 rounds in .25. More in .22 less in .30. yes Jon stated at IWA2019 that the calibers would be .22 .25 & .30

Are they really going to be able to fit a 500 mm barrel on a bullpup with an overall length of 25" with moderator, 23" without moderator?

According to the specs on the Utah Airguns page the 22 with 500 mm barrel has an overall length of 29.9" including shroud plus moderator.

According FX in the comments section of the Mk2 Compact YouTube video the moderator shows was 2". Let's say the Mk2 with 500 mm barrel on the UA page comes with at most a 5" moderator. So there is 3" of the difference made up.

Would the other 2" of difference come from how far the shroud extends past the barrel?

Here is the video with the comments about the length without moderator:

Here is the link to the UA with specs for the MK2 Impacts:

I'll include a Snip of specification grid.

Ksenya, all companies FX, Daystate, AirArms, Brocock are paying import, custom fees, freight and etc. but only Edgun has such a huge difference between prices in the country of origin and US.

I don't have to travel to Russia, pay tickets or hotels. I have enough friends in Moscow or St.Petersburg they can buy any Edgun I would like, tomorrow (I already checked that too)

I know your customs, I know it's tricky but even that is possible to avoid (first it would be delivered to EU and after to US) I just don't want that headache, I can simply go online or visit local dealer and order FX or another brand and pay just slightly more than in Sweeden.

It's your business - you can sell for whatever you want I just don't feel paying such a huge difference.

I don't want to shoot slow, I'm trying to get an idea, what is better for hunting - heavier but obviously bit slower .30 or a little bit lighter but faster .25

I want to squeeze as much as possible energy from compact form factor

Yes, Dreamline 380mm barrel is only available in .177 and .22

I'm planning to get longer barrel and cut to 380mm the question was what caliber would work better .30 or .25?

I HAVE A STANDARD IMPACT WITH A 600MM BARREL. With the shroud collapsed all the way it measures 29.5". ( half inch gap between the muzzle of the barrel and the collapsed shroud.) I have the 1st model. From the farthest point on the butt pad to the face of the barrel breech is 4'' plus or minus a 32nd of an inch, Now a 600mm barrel minus a 500mm barrel is 100mm (3.937"). I'll call it 4". 29" overall minus 4" = 25" overall . The length overall of the Impact Compact as stated in the you tube video Jon made and you put into your response to me. Please take the time to listen to what Jon says in the youtube video. The information in it given by Jon is 300cc carbon fiber bottle, 500mm barrel, side shot magazine. I don't remember the weight but it's next to nothing. He never mentioned moderator, I never mentioned moderator, the Compact Impact is shown with what looks like a 1and 1/2" moderator. I think it is a cuff to redirect the air from the shroud and that the shroud does the work of the moderator. But that remains to be seen. If you put a 6.5" moderator on my impact it would measure 36". Do the same to the Compact Impact it would measure about 31.5" Impact. But what ever is on the end of that barrel it is not add more then 2" to the gun. SO what I'm saying is it is doable to build a Compact Impact between 25 and 26 inches long. If Jon says Fredrick is going to manufacture it I'm in line. I don't believe either of them would make a statement they haven't already succeeded at doing. My barrel is 600mm ( 23.622"). From the breech end of the barrel is 4" to the very end of the longest rubber point of the butt pad. That totals 27.622 inches, subtract the 100mm (3.3937")difference in barrel length and this equals 24.2283. Now add the cuff to perhaps get 25&7/8" depending on just how long it is and if the barrel penetrates into it. The cocking mechanism, pellet probe and the butt only adds 4" to the Impact, the rest is barrel and what ever you put on the end of the barrel. I wish you had access to an impact to take these measurements from rather then casting doubt upon Fredrick, Jon, and me. I looked at the Dreamline compacts, did my research, decided I want 25/26" overall Impact compact. I'd like a 480cc carbon fiber bottle but I don't think the bottle adaptor for the Dreamline would work to lower the bottle enough to clear the shroud and if the threads would mate. SUCCESSFUL HUNTING AND SAFE SHOOTING. GBGUNNER

I by no means intended to cast doubt on anyone and I apologize for coming across that way. I don't expect Jon or anyone else who is at the last day of a trade show to get everything right. If they can squeeze a 500 mm barrel into a 25" package I think that's great.

What I meant about the length of the moderator was that FX mentioned the length in the comment section below the video. I snipped that portion of the comments and will post it as an image below.

I don't mean to derail LTU-013's thread any further. I think he's asking an interesting question and I hope he gets some useful comments.
