Short hunt with grandson - What a blast!

Got home from work about 5:30 and my 9 yo grandson was there and wanted to go shooting. So I said grab your gun. After airing up his Prod and my Huben .22 we took off for a local farm.

As soon as we pulled in I saw about 5 or 6 pigeons take off. One landed on top of a grain truck about 25 yards away and just sat there looking at us. We got out and loaded his Prod then he leaned on my front fender to line up and take a shot. Bingo. Down it came. First pigeon for him.

I managed to shoot three in the cow pen but couldn't recover them. Then we walked up the hill to a pond to try and get some frogs. Hes been obsessed lately with killing and eating a bullfrog. Sure enough they were sitting everywhere on the bank. He shot 1 and I shot 5 but only recovered 4 total. The others made it into the water and I couldnt retrieve them. Probably saw 20.

When we got home he wanted to skin them , and eat them so we did. Now his older sister wants to go too. Looks like I'm going to be busy. But I love it.

So cool you can hunt with your grandson. I love frog legs. As kids we gigged for them and mom would prepare them for us. Until recently, I didn't know bullfrogs are undesirable. They will eat leopard frogs and other threatened aquatics. We have an abundance of them in a creek nearby, but it's illegal to harvest them with airguns here. 😔

Great story and photos. Thanks for sharing. Unfortunately I have to call you out just a little bit. I’m really sorry to be a complainer but one of those photos really jumps out at me for it’s safety violation. Your grandson is sitting right in front of the muzzle of that rifle. I’m sure it’s probably not loaded and I’m being overly picky but it does violate one of the golden rules. Okay, rant over, I enjoyed your post.

I appreciate your concern and will pay better attention next time. Thanks for pointing it out.
