Short range accuracy must = 50 yard. Right ?

Benchrest? i'm wanting almost hole on hole at 25/50/75/100 - i don't own a gun capable of doing this.

Yes, the stuff of dreams 😁

I'm still trying at the 50 yard mark, airguns might be capable but I'm not!

Done 5 shot, hole on hole a couple of times but not often enough to claim to be able to be able to repeat that group 5 times consecutively. Working on it, hope to move out to 55 yards next summer.

Cheers!

Big difference between indoor and outdoor and 10 meter or 55 yards... pellet speed dropping, wind pushing, thermals lifting etc...
My take is this: on a very still day, i shoot my 5 to 10 round groups at 55 yards with a given pellet at its best speed, example 10.3 at 888 fps.
If i'm clover leaf touching the barrel is good to go for my HFT needs.
Exception, when I'm shooting EFT / UFT / AFT then i want my .25 cal 25 gr or 33gr pellets at 910 FPS and hope to be within a 1.5 inch group or tighter so i can get inside the Kill Zone.

You need another gun . No questions just do it . 😎

yes I used to shoot a lot of 10 meters.. I actually got good at it over time with the Beeman P1.. started with 12 gauge shells, then 20.. then 410.. and finally empty 22 LR brass.. lots of good practice when I was young.. plus most of mine was outside on a fence rail.. you shooting inside eliminates the variable of wind..
it won't get you your long distance zero but it will get you close..if you can't hit it at 10 meters or yards..I doubt there's a chance at 50..
personally I have never seen groups tighten up out at distance if they are not tight close.. farther away=farther off..
Mark

When I first got my Maverick, I tried .217 NSA's, at 10m, they would open to 1/4" groups and at 50 yards it was impossible to get 1 MOA groups.

Moved on to 100 yards and they did nice groups just sitting at the edge of 1 MOA.

.2175" stayed small throughout the distances.

Are you shooting a PCP of a spring gun? Huge difference in many aspects. I can only speak from the spring gun side. The ideas that pellets aren't stable at 10 yards to me is baloney for this reason. Pretty much all pellets we have shot hole on hole at 10 yards. The pellets that don't shoot at 20 meters we shoot at 10 meters and win with. Typically with good pellets at 20 meters 5 shot groups do not show under the base of a .223 case. The groups that make us smile are a small hole not quite perfectly round. Take that to 50 yards, I consider .5 center to center very good and .6 ok. I am speaking .177. Now .22 out of my D54 at 100 yards I consider 5 shots under 2 inches very good. I have had 4 shots make a fat hole several times but then 1 of the 5 leaked out to make it 3 or 4 inches. Must use flags outside or your kidding yourself plus pretty good conditions, especially at 100. Big difference with .22 pellets at 760 vs .177 at 8.4 fighting the wind past 50 yards in my experience. Best day at 100 was back to back 5 shot groups under 1.5 inches.

These are the only pics I have. The 50yd target my wife shot was

That 50 yd Target was the first 3 shots my wife ever shot with an air rifle. I did almost no outdoor shooting with the airguns last year except for hunting groundhogs. The target my wife shot at 50yds I have shot with my TX at 50 and it will pretty much shoot all 10s. Again, conditions are a huge factor. I admire shoe of the groups I see posted off buckets and sticks.

True, that is why I wrote outside influences aside in my relative target size coment. All kinds of influences happen when you add range. 👍

In my continued hot take on the subject I think it can be said that at greater distances (l
& leaving out external effects like wind, temp, etc) ballistic flaws will probably become more apparent.

My personal experience w this was w a bullet that looked great at 10, but was tumbling at 50. The slug was too small for the bore...pretty simple explanation even for my tiny brain.
