Shortening fx liner

Wondering if anyone has cut a 700 liner down to 600 or500. Can it be done. On the outside looking in, I don't see why not.
Before you ask. Say you have an abundance or unused liners. Why buy a to fit when a little cut work would save .

I had a gunsmith shorten my 700mm by 3.5mm from the breach end, cut and crowned. No issues. Be aware however if you end up with a non-standard length accessories may not fit properly.

The cut and crown are EZPZ, the barrel and shroud are harder to shorten.

Not a Problem...
Cut the Breech end..
True it up
Cut a slight Lead-In taper to the bore.
Bevel the outer edge of the barrel liner....

I would cut the crown end off myself, make a slug barrel and remove the choke.

I'm envious of those of you with the equipment and experience to do this kind of work yourselves. What are your professions if you don't mind me asking? Machinists? Gunsmiths? Really dedicated hobbyists?

Don't know about other people but I started working in machine shops years ago.
Left that and went into construction, then demolition work and flooring work!
Bought lathe and other stuff for messing up perfectly good Air Guns until I learned what NOT to do.

Engineer by Education...electronic/computer
During my summers.. help at my Gunsmith-friend's Gunshop.
Read a lot about tuning actions and triggers in rifle and pistols..
The above friend had a lot of reference material too....
Eventually he had me help him and his apprentice tuning Semi Auto pistols....Colts and S&W
Then he started to show me the finer techniques of Machining..
After college I picked up a small lathe... the rest his history..... with a lot of swarf!!!

I’m a glorified tinkerer. Oh, let’s see…

• started taking apart toys and appliances in elementary school
• did some car audio stuff for a few years in junior high
• then built loudspeakers (woodworking) and crossover networks in high school
• off to college in electrical engineering where I mixed in some building and troubleshooting computers and laying out printed circuit boards
• then more computer-related stuff for the day job
• followed by designing medical / IT devices
• then got interested in airguns and started making and modifying parts with a Dremel and drill press before finally deciding to get a small lathe

My wife once introduced me to someone as a serial obsessive hobbyist. I had to smile. Guilty as charged.

I was addicted to long range hunting long before it was what the cool guys were doing. Kept my gunsmith so busy that I wound up helping him to ease the pain of all the money he was cleaning out of my wallet. I was young, didn’t have 10 credit cards so I’m glad he took me in. Learned a lot. Forgot some. Machine work for guns is easy. Building stocks for all kinds of guns to fit each customer perfectly was and will always be way above my pay grade. I freed him up on some menial tasks so he could focus on the difficult stuff.

Yep long range Varminting got me in all of this!!

It started with 22-250 and precision reloading...
Then came rechambering to a wildcat- 22-250 Ackley Improved 40° shoulder.
This was my start into machining... also trigger tuning!!!!
