Shorter superlight barrel so shroud can act as suppressor

The liner on my Dreamline superlight barrel goes into part 14 when assembled, so no air can go back into the shroud. If I shortened the barrel by 100mm and just relied on the spacers (part 12) for centering the liner, then the shroud should provide some noise suppression. I'm interested to hear from anyone who has tried this.

Should work a bit in principle...but no baffles in the shroud?...and would the barrelor shroud not float a bit? *I'm just wondering now as well lol

Xyon, are you sure the liner goes that far forward? With my Crown, there is some space between the barrel end and the shroud end cap, allowing air to travel back down the shroud.

I think so, there is an o-ring in my part 14 for the liner to sit in. I found this post, which confirms the setup you describe;

but I'm wondering if FX changed it so the liner supports don't migrate backwards. Or FX sent an Aussie version to NZ (no suppressors allowed)

Maybe you can look into the fancy OG extendable shroud from FX from back in the days. It worked but not well enough to be kept.

Extend a tube to the end of the shroud to keep things in line. Or you could just extend the shroud as well.

Honestly depending on your power level a shroud or silencer with nothing in it will work just fine.

The liner does not sit that close to the endcap. It’s only centered by the spacers inside the shroud. I have a compact dreamline, and this is how it is on my dreamline and crown both with super lite barrels.

It does on this Dreamline lite. It's not the compact version but not sure that is a factor.

My aim here was to not have to add a suppressor so I can keep the weight and length down. The barrel is the 500mm.

There is no problem using a shorter liner in a bigger shroud with a superlight barrel (Dreamline or Crown) and adding an internal silencer.

I did the same with my Dreamline Tactical and added an in-barrel suppressor.
Is used a 600mm .25 liner in combination with a 700mm shroud (28mm) diameter.
I also swapped the cone part of the shroud to make room to use a power plenum on my DreamTac, which moves the shroud another 17mm to the front.
Shortening the barrel in an original shroud is the same principle, though I wouldn't shorten my compact liner too much.

For the 600mm liner I used 3 spacers, which center the liner in the shroud (part 12).

Now you have space for a 12cm long internal suppressor, I've printed one usin a resin printer.
I say the noise is comparable with my .22 barrel and Hugget suppressor.
