Shot cycle comparison between HW98 and HW97?

I have a .177 HW98 and it's a nice shooter. Is the powerplant the same in the HW97? I'm thinking of getting a HW97 and just wondering if the HW97 shot cycle will make about the same noise?

I'm a little spoiled in that my .22 LGU is very quiet, in part due to the hollow space in the muzzle weight acting as a bit of a moderator. The HW97 seems to have a similar hollow muzzle weight so wondering if it might be quieter than the HW98?

I own multiple 98s and 97s in different calibers. All have been repowered by Vortek kits. They are all smooth and quiet and super accurate.


I would say that in stock form the 97 is likely considerably smoother than a stock 98. I have a new 98 that just arrived today that I am tuning for another party. It has a lot of buzz as is.
