Should i buy a hatsan with a vortex gas piston

Please forgive me if this has already been asked somewhere and if it has please direct me to the thread.
I am putting away a few dollars here and there saving for a new air rifle. saving is very slow in this economy. I am thinking $250 or so would be my budget give or take a few bucks.
Only been into airguns about a year or so. (Hatsan Airtact .22, Gamo Varmit .177,
Winchester 1100ss) .
I have been doing a whole lot of reading and watching videos.
A pcp would be great but self contained like a springer makes more sense to me.
I really like my airtact, so I have been looking into Hatsans, would like more power than I have now.
So far the Hatsan 125 .25 cal looks real good, but should I go with the spring version or the vortex.
Been hearing a that the vortex pistons are prone to fail and that is not compatible with my budget.
Any input would be appreciated.

Johnny,
You said any input would be appreciated, so here goes. Celebrated one year forum membership in April and I've learned while we can't seem to agree on the best air guns, it's clear that Hatsan gets the worst press. From customer service, fit/finish and overall quality Hatsan takes a beating far more than any other manufacturer. Feel free to search the forum archives to see for yourself. I'm glad your satisfied with your Airtact .22 and realize the final decision is yours, however, I'd like you to approach your next purchase with eyes wide open. Best of Luck, WM

Well anything can be pron to fail.

I got gas and spring. Heres my take

More poi change with the gas ram ad changes in the days weather or temps.

They claim nitrogen filled but..... I dont see how woth all that above. It more acting like just plain ol air filled to me.

Most rams if there going to fail fail fast at first useage. ) So they say(. I had a gqmo fail in 1000 shots and told this and a gamo thats still going strong 4 years of hard use , so?

Then if it fails outside warranty not so easy to find a direct replacement.

Over all i can take it or leave it on gas rams..

The spring .. well it does as good power wise and all things shooting .. but a spring breaks or gets weak you stand a better chance getting one . Even if you ask like agh to cut one to fit a gun not listed.. i feel i get far less poi changes . Then unless its a heck of a sale or or somthing too hard to pass up i doubt id just go gas again at retail pricing. Its ok and works fine, but i dont see it trump a good spring gun.

Anyway my 95 & 25sc vortex is doing fine , but i could go shoot it today and it may all of a sudden have a flat...lol. Then what? Hatsan service if iffy at best..

One more thing . Not 100% sure but like my hatsan rams take a fill probe so with it and pcp handpump you could adjust ram pressure. Dont know if the newer stuff can or not.

I think before we go any farther we should know "What is your purpose , what do you want to do with this gun ?"
I would not recommend a .25 caliber in anything but a pcp .
Plus pellet availability.. you ain't running into walmart to grab .25 quick as needed . My 95 is .22 the 25 is .177 likes cphp all day long... In a springer between .25 and .22 youll never see a difference. Outside inconvenience of shooting .25

It sounds like you want a super magnum (if you are thinking of the 125) for whatever purpose doesn’t matter. The Hatsan Vortex gas ram is probably the best part of the Hatsan. I would tell you that if you cannot find one locally and inspect it in person (assuming you have springer knowledge) you will probably be playing the return game. Also the Hatsan brand needs someone who doesn’t mind tinkering. Parts are difficult to get also. I have several and mine are good. Lately however Hatsan has slipped in the QC department. As stated earlier if we know your needs you may be wanting more power than needed and that opens up many better choices.

Not promoting but didn't d you look at this in .25?

5 year warranty they foot the full bill the first year then you just pay shipping to them after that. Its spring , but the 33mm seal not easy to get ( cas Australia) but you got 5 years of near no issue rma ( thats how ive been treated by them on one )

Im sure someone will bring up the pba thing but so does hatsan Available in 3 calibers: .177, .22 and .25, this air rifle maxes out at 1550 FPS (.177 cal lead-free pellets)..lol. , So..

Thank to everyone for the input. that is a lot to chew on, but I have plenty to time to chew on it.
I thinking I shouldn't get in a big hurry, which i often do.
The more input I get tells me just be patient save, save and get a pcp.
The reason for more power would be for hogs.
I am in Oklahoma but was born and raised in Texas.
So anyway in small community down there, is a family cemetery about 200 years old and the Hogs are slowly tearing the place up.
Although there are family friends who go and keep things maintained. Some real history there several generations back pre-civil war.
Plenty of cover and concealment at close range so a 20 yard head shot should be very doable.
Pcps I have looked at are the Hatsan flash qe 25, Gamo urban .22, Umarex gauntlet I think it was the first version .25, Beeman Chief 2 22cal.
anyway that is just very small part of what i have looked at and thought about.
Some times my head starts to swim from looking at all the options out here.

I very much question the ability to kill a hog with a pellet gun unless you go pcp and big bore.

Yes i have just done some reading on the subject an i am not sure I would be willing to try it. Maybe a well placed head shot 50 fpe with good penatration.
Oh well I guess go with the most accuracy and power balance and use a powder burner for the hogs, at least for now.
So that leaves bunch of options within what i think the budget might be.

First, what do you want from a springer?
Targets/plinking, groups, pesting/hunting?

There are a lot of better choices for a springer. If all you expect is outright power, being able to hit a 2-3” target wi 40-50 yards, a .25 Hatsan might be okay.
Trust me it’s way better to save & get what you really want.
If you want a .25 there’s HW80 .25 or 77/97, 52 .25.
I say this because I wasted money on Stoeger, Gamo 13-15 years ago.
If I could know then what I do now. I would recommend not going cheap on mounts. Use BKL

Weihrauch had been and will be on my wish list. I hear and read nothing but good things about them.

I have a Gamo varmit its ok but not good enough to make me want another gamo.
What do

All the above. I was really leaning towards the springer but now I am really leaning Pcp.

I guess if hunting is maybe just go .30 pcp in a quailty gun.. here that covers deer ( in pcp) . You thump a hog in the burr of the ear with that hes down , down easy at a greater range. Thing is what is Oklahoma pcp law? Maybe a air gun / pcp cal. Limit as well on certin things.
I am not sure what the large game laws for airguns are here, but i do know squirrels and rabbits are legal.
Guess i will have to look up all the info.
