Should i buy a hatsan with a vortex gas piston

If you're looking at budget PCPs and power is important I would consider the Gauntlet 2 in 30 caliber.

You can shoot it between 75 and 110 fpe just by turning the hammer spring allen key. You get twice as many shots at low power (which would still be 50% more power than a .25 caliber Guantlet)... which equals 6 magazines per fill.

Or you can turn it up and hunt larger stuff like hogs, coyotes, etc with plenty of confidence.

The gun doesn't like slugs due to a tight breech, but you can roll with JSB Hades, probably better for hunting small/medium game anyway.

OkJohnny >> I do not have a Hatsan Flash but I do have the Hatsan Hydra in .25 which I believe is similar but a little more power. Don't get this gun. It's accuracy sucks. The nice part is that it's light and a nice trigger. The only reason I keep this gun is to maybe gift it to my kid as a starter PCP one day. My $200 Beeman Commander is way more accurate than the Hatsan and only a little less power.

Going off the original post? I'd go with a Wire Spring Hatsan 125.
In .25 Cal? That will reach out to 75 yards EASY and take off beer bottle necks!
That is what I started with but mine had the Crosman Gas Ram conversion.
I had several Talons with the Wire Spring and those had much more power!
After a little work? Those would hit a 4" target at 90 yards! And do some serious damage!

Now. You have to learn how to shoot those Guns! It's not as easy as it sounds!

There's a very skilled Shooter here that has taken Hog with break barrels so it can be done IF your as good a shot.
I believe it was a Nitro Piston .22 that he dropped one with!
A 125 Hatsan .25? If I was around 25 yards? I'd take the shot.

I have know doubt a springer will kill a hog. I’m saying even with the BEST shot, a springer will wound more than it kills. We have better options to make a humane shot.

Reading all the replies kind of confirms my original reservations about Hatsan. I guess I got lucky with my airtact 22 cal, I have had no issues with it at all.
Mater if fact i replaced the trigger adjustment screw yesterday and now it is excellent and it really helped with accuracy.
I think I am going to be patient and just save for a while to get a pcp. The Umarex Gauntlet is looking really good. There seems to be a lot of after market accessories and upgrades. So i could start out with a stock rifle and modify a little at a time.
Of coarse i things could change between now and then prices and so on.
Still having a great time tweaking my budget springers. Started out a few months back shooting all over the place. Now with a tweak here and there and getting my hold consistent and proper I have got my groups down to a little less than an inch at 25 yards.

Even though I really want a pcp. Despite some of the negatives with Hatsan I still am somewhat am interested in the 125.
I tend to change my mind alot. My limited experience with Hatsan has been positive.
When I got my Airtact the breech seal was damaged. I contacted support and had 4 new breech seals within two weeks , no charge.
That doesn't mean i discount the negatives others have experienced.

PCP's I have, 2 of them, both Hatsans. Neither have any mods done to them, both stock from the box, both shoot 39-40fpe. Overkill in many cases since most of my shooting is 30ish yards and my springers will easily take most small game aka squirrels, rabbits and such.
PCP also opens a new can of worms since you'll have to spend more money on some way to fill it, whether it's a hand pump or some kind of compressor. For mine, I have an air tank an area fire supply company fills for me when I need a refill.
Not a thing says you can only have one or the other and many do along with CO2 and pumpers.

What Hatsan PCP's do you have?
39 to 40 fpe would be fine to start with knowing that I could mod latter to get a little more power.
I will most likely start with a hand pump and eventually get a tank or compressor.
Got get that PCP first though.
My springers are plenty fun and just fine for small game for now.

Which takes me back to what do you want more power for?? What is it you may be wanting to kill that "39-40fpe would be fine to start" just isn't enough to get the job done???
You've said that "a little more power" line a couple times now, but not what or how far you might be wanting to shoot to try and hit it.
Tell everyone what it is and how far away you want to be able to hit it from and everyone could help you more.

My take is here its .30+ cal pcp covers everything from sparrow to deer. Thats the min large game cal. Ya you can shoot things with a ,22. But if your wanting a one gun solution here thats it.
You go in the field and it covers anything that steps in front of you legal.

Being a landowner i dont worry about game rangers i rarely need to step of my property . If i do a .30+ pcp got me covered .

Power. Would eventually like to be able to take a hog. I do not expect to take a giant hog, just one about grill size.
I have a powder burner for large game but would not mind some day to have a big bore air rifle to take big game.

Suggestion would be to wander the PCP Gate if you haven't already and see what fellow members are shooting caliber wise and what they're shooting with it. Never tried anything bigger than woodchucks and raccoons with either of my .25 caliber PCP's, but I'd like to think if I was inside 40 yards of a medium sized hog, either of my rifles with a good head shot in the right place would do the job.

I'm not sure I would take a shot on a hog past 25 or 30 yards anyway. If i am not confident in my shot i don't take it.
I will take a look at PCP Gate, that is the direction I am really leaning now.

Of your going to biy a gun to hunt all or just one thing ? Check your States pcp hunting law and get the one that covers it all. Like i said here its a 30 cal minimum . If just shooting a squirrel or so then a .22 is fine. Also it seems here hogs falls under general gun without clarification so thats also that .30? So with a .30 pcp im covered under everything anyway. Not hoping i am if needed in handcuffs .lol
