Should i feel bad ?

Couple months ago the wife and i was gifted two ducklings, after they grew enough we moved them outdoors to a fence and coop, the wife turned them into pets that would follow her around the acreage. Then one morning there was blood every where inside their fence and only one left, still don't know if it was a owl, raccon, possum, or what, but pieces of that duck fell from a 100ft pine tree nearby. So since that i set a monitor to set off a tone in our bed room, a motion detector, and mounted a flash light on my 22cal hatsan flash 1000 fps, now it's almost nightly normally around 3:00 am that a possum and two raccoons get unwanted lead, last nite the raccon kept walking, should i track these critters 3:00 in the morning in my underware or just hope it doesn't return, head shot at 45 yards and only been awake 30 seconds before taking shot is not easy to do. Presently we have 3 ducks and 3 chickens in this coop.

Don't feel bad. They are destroying your property/killing your pets. For me, in that situation, my ethics dictate that I do my best to make a good fatal shot. If that happens to fail, so be it. I tried. And that pest won't be back either way, so mission accomplished. Just my opinion in that situation. Everyone's ethics will differ.

Thanks for this reply, i wasn't sure of what kind of responses I'd get.

I lowered the boom on a bunch of unruly crows for early morning raucous calling, scattering trash from cans and slaughtering songbird hatchlings, never bothered me one bit, in fact, was glad to do it. Life around here now is peaceful, clean and full of songbirds. Sometimes you just have to do what needs to be done. WM
