Western Airguns Sidewinder/Rattler, Vulcan3 or Huben K1?

I have a giant beard....will it get caught in the action?
LMAO, the short answer is probably...
It does ultimately depend on where your final eye relief is .
You can get around the "whisker snatcher" by m`oving the scope forward on like a Warme Xskel mount or even lay a microfiber rag or something over the action

My beard is pretty long , haven't had an issue yet but this is also all person dependent like you said.

Ghost, not trying to start anything here but if the slugs you had in the mag were loose enough to "slide" forward they were the wrong slugs.
Huben is very specific about the size of slugs, Zan makes specific size oversized slugs for the Hubens, and trust me there is NO Way they will ever slide forward in the mag..

Peace amigo ✌️
Those rifled die cast mags were trash without question. The chambers had as much as 0.003" variation and 0.2228" ammo was the appropriate size for the bore. I get that some people love them and choose to run grossly oversized ammo out of them, but they're just not capable of shooting consistent sub-MOA groups at 100 like most (all?) semi-auto PCP platforms, but that probably doesn't matter to everyone.

@mtnGhost Were there any aftermarket mags that remedied the issue?

I'm a fan of the hammerless valve. I wanted a huben but was given a deal on a lcs sk19 in 15. The gun has been great to me. I havent had any jams. The only thing that was kind of hard to get used to is letting the trigger reset in semi mode. Western has their new line like the lcs with a removable mag. I need more trigger time with the lcs to really shoot it well. The action is loud right next to your ear but I dont think it's any worse then most bullpups. Easy to disassemble and reassemble. Barrel cleaning is easy. I think aoa has a used LCS for 1600$ or something like that if you wanted to give it a try without going all in.

The Vulcan 3 and Huben are 2 completely different animals, and In my opinion, designed for different jobs. The Huben is lightweight, and agile. Perfect for woods walking or strolling round the farm picking off critters. It does well in the bench, but that’s really where the Vulcan shines. It’s heavy, big, but super accurate. Power wise, they’re both capable, but the Huben is quicker and easier to tune.

I guess my next question is, what kind of shooting do you do?

This is absolute the best advice …
i have both and the post above sums it up…

I would not choose the k1 as it jams when you start shooting hard and fast. But I liked the semi auto. But also I never had a Valcan for long. But I would do the Valcan. Or a different semi auto. There fun.
I wish to share different experience with two K1's, one in .25 and one in .22. I have over 4K pellets through the .25 with only one jam and that was because I forgot to flip the loading lever back to the shooting position and the magazine did not index after my first shot. Easy to clear, and a lesson to pay attention. The .22 is newer, and I've zero issues with over 1K pellets. I was told by NewEnglandAirGuns to be sure to spin the mag a few times before closing the lever to be sure nothing is hanging up. Also, keep the plenum regulator over 16MPa in .22 and 18MPa in .25 to ensure proper cycling. (JSB pellets in all cases).

I'm sorry that you had a bad experience. I've (and my son's) shot full mags as fast as I can pull the trigger and, yes, semi auto is awesome.

What blows me away is how easily I can, with a few clicks of the power wheel, change from 6 or so FPE to over 90 with no adjustment other than the wheel. I'd recommend the K1 to anyone, but your MMV.

North Shore of MA here - Nice gun! I've been thinking of getting the Accu-Tac bipod - how do you like it? I'll send a PM if I'm heading your way - maybe grab a cup of coffee!
I have had UTG , Accushot and 3 different models of Accu-tac. The other 2 models for my uses were complete overkill as this BR4G2 model is just awesome, its the smallest of their line up and it is super stable. Like scopes, getting into a high end bipod, youll never look back. It outclasses the Accu-shot (atlas) bipods in every way.

I grew up and work in oxford, ma, not too familiar with north shore but thats ok

Kelly from Krazkool Airguns had sold some aftermarket mags. He and Dale Riggert (Varmint Knockers) collaborated with a precision machine shop to develop some 7075/76 AL mags that had chambers machined to a 0.0001" tolerance or something crazy like that. The mags were not rifled though, so there would most likely be issues transitioning from a "throated" mag to thr barrel chamber (my gen6 / 2020 K1 didn't have a freebore chamber - not that freebore is ideal for slugs), so I wasn't too motivated to test the mag that I bought from Kelly.

Ok guys, I just put in an order for a .25 K1 from Kelly. What pellets do you shoot with the most consistency? I will order the correct size ZANs and also ordered some of the Alteros slugs made specifically for the K1.
Thx,
Paul
From my understanding, the heavier the better. Start with the 33.95 jsb. They’re already a fantastic pellet. I’m sure the Huben will make them even better!

I have owned both. I just have 2 M3's now. But if I had to buy one, I would go with the Huben.
i just didn't like the Vulcan. Didn't like the ping in my ear. And it just didn't suit me.
Huben was fun. But it does have its quirks like some other posters stated. But it is easy adjust, and accurate with pellets and the heavier slugs. I killed multiple coons form 130yds with it at night. It is a hunter for sure.
The one thing I didn't like was you could not take the magazine out. so you had to rely on the safety.
