Hi folks! I hope you're doing well.

Could somebody please suggest to me a variable scope for the Benjamin Marauder? I'm looking probably in the range of 50-150 yards and the budget is $200 top end. I know that's not a ton but hoping someone can point me in the right direction.

I made the mistake of adding the1x25 mm Multi-Tac Sight to my cart from the Benjamin website when I ordered my PCP. That sight is not even remotely what I was wanting or looking for. It's a cool sight, but seems much better suited for clearing a room than popping quail head from 50 yards. lol.
I read the Hawke 9x40 is a good option under $200, but after I seem to keep making mistakes joining this hobby, I figured I should ask the thoughts of you all first.

Bonus points if your rec happens to have a picatinny mount, that way I don't need to use a picatinny to dovetail converter.

This can be a very expensive hobby if you don't know wtf you're doing 🙃

Stuck with a 1-25mm I have no intentions of using now.

Thank you, take care!

I second that thread by Matthias. He has done a lot of reaserch.

Yes, the Hawke line of vantage scopes are a good choice in that price range. I also have a UTG Hunter that is good for the price.

if this is going to be your only pcp, LOL, I would save little more and aim for $400 ish. The difference is big. I was a non believer. Then I found deal on one would never have paid full price for. I would spend that much today as it is worth the better qualit to me.

Which one did you end up splurging on?

Tbh I might grab a hawk from amazon to get me by for now, and go the return route to upgrade simply because I really want to try to rifle. that gives me time to figure out which scope actually works for me. judge me

One of my big hangups right now is that I plan to use something like a SideShot, but most or all of the scopes I see have some sort of adjustable objective at the eyepiece which will not play nice with a SideShot if I am understanding correctly

This is all my opinion about the scope I have.

Hawke Vantage 2-7
This was my first AO scope. It’s been on both of my springers and has survive on my HW95, which killed two UTG before I tamed it.
The little Hawke does its job well. Just saw an add for $70 new from some vendor.
I also have a Vantage 4-12 I bought used. The Vantage is good for the money but the turret clicks are poor. Once set I leave them.

I have two Hawke Airmax 4-12 on my springers. I love everything about them except the turrets. Mushy clicks like the Vantage line.

When I stepped up to a 30+ fpe gun, I wanted a bigger scope. After a lot of reading I settled on an Athlon Argos 4-20 for $350 ish? That is a fantastic scope. More clear, better clicks, everything it better.
My only regret is reticle choice but I have adapted so non issue.

I liked the Athlon so much that started shopping for another. Then I saw the Helos on sale at Camera land. And it had the reticle that i really like. Normally $500 or so for $425.

Everything about it is better. It will also lead me into experimenting with clicking vs hold over.
I saw a 4-20 Helos in the classified a while back, but I didn’t have the funds (read permission of my controller).

My next scope purchase will be another in the $500 class…some day.

Here is the Helos on my 1720.

Scopes can be a pain in the butt till you look thru a lot of them. I prefer thin line reticles, some prefer thick, how our your eyes ? I like Athlon and Hawke scopes and I prefer FFP over SFP. you have a lot of variables too chose from but not trying to confuse you. The UTG line for me the ones I have bought and have got rid of all seam to give off a glare in the lens. Suggest you go into a store and check different scopes out if possible. The classifieds you can get a good deal sometimes, that is where I have bought all of mine trial and err lol. At my age now I need to go too higher power. Here is a Athlon BTR 4-16 on a Marauder. I bought the scope for under $200 good luck as you have begun the rabbit hole dive LOL.

Been very happy with my Discovery scope & a Vector Veyron I had for a minute. Within your budget & surprisingly nice glass/reticles.
This was going to my recommendation as well. I would highly recommend the Vector Veyron 3-12 or 4-16 scopes. They do have a thinner reticle so if that bothers you the Discovery Optics HD 2-12x24SFIR is another clear option with a thicker reticle.

There's one for sale on classifieds, pg. 3 for $180 right now! Vector Veyron 3x12x44.
That’s too bad. I have my handler in agreement that I can buy a compressor.
a weekago I realized that my scope to rifle ratio again dropped below 2 to 1. But I am more tired of hand pumping than I need a lighter scope.

Check out the Westhunter scopes on Amazon. They have a lot of choices at reasonable prices. You can get them with or without illumination, FFP or SFP, and different sizes. This is my favorite: WestHunter Optics WHT SFIR FFP Series Compact Competition Riflescope, 1/10 MIL First Focal Plane Red Illumination Etched Glass Reticle, 30mm Tube Tactical Precision Shooting Scopes https://a.co/d/bswWWl8
I love the recticals on these. I've replaced all of my front bell AO scopes with this brand and haven't been happier.
