Sight screw plugs after removing the iron sights.

Hello,

While I mostly shoot pcp’s now I still enjoy my springers, and after removing the iron sights from my RWS Diana models 52 and 350 I find that none of my plug screws in my Pachmayr screw set will fit to plug the holes. 6-48 is the smallest I have and they are too large. What plug screws do you use on these German rifles and where can I buy some?

They are metric. Probably 2 or 3mm. Should be able to get a a good hardware store. I find the correct thread then cut off to desired length and with a Dremel and very fine cutting wheel, cut in a slot. Polish, blue and done. In desperation I have used the same screws that came with sights. Not my first choice though.

You should find black plastic plugs from Hillman ( Loews & Home Depot) will do the trick. I have used them in the past . I don’t remember the size though.

If you have an industrial fastener supply or a real good hdwe store they will have what is called a "set screw" yes the German rifles use metric threads but most good outlets should have them. You may have to buy a whole box but typically only a few bucks. By getting set screws they should already be black. If you can find the correct size ( 2 or 3 mm) you can also order them from McMaster Carr industrial supply.

A thread checker might be useful. Then you might be able to get what you need out of a parts bin at an orange box store or an Ace.

I've bought set screws, like 4-40x3/16, for other weapons at local hardware stores once identified.

The plug screws are M5x0.5, an unusual pitch that can't be easily found commercially. You can get the die from China/ebay, and the quality of the die is sufficient for the purpose, especially if you can accept brass screws. I believe the Weihrauch originals were phosphated steel, but ARH used brass screws. If you send me a pm, I'll give you the die. I've already made up enough for my own use.

Are they headless, cheese head, flat? M5x0.8 is definitely more common.

Many thanks to mh for his tip to try Hillman black nylon 3/16" plugs from Lowe's. It is the least expensive best looking solution I've found since Beeman stopped producing the filler screws and sight plates years ago. I also recommend Archer Airguns all steel blued muzzle brake which fits 15mm barrels which fits the HW50, HW30, R7. and others. black RTV silicone hold the under size screws in place and fill the front hole , trimmed with razor blade after setting
