Sightmark Wraith HD 4-32x50, is it useless for Airguns PCP?

Hi I just so much want this scope for my FX Bobcat 😁...........

But is it useless, cause in a normal optical scope like the Hawke Airmax you have parallax wheel on side, lets say you want to shoot on 30 yards, you sight in the target then using the parallax wheel you focus in the best you can, now you know the target is about 30 yards away and you can make calculation to hold over or under...

But in this Sightmark Wraith HD 4-32x50, Yes you have a focus ring so you also have to focus in different distances, and this is where I get confused, can you see the distance somewhere, on the focusring engraved or in the digital onscreen menu? cause if you are focused in on a target X yards away but dont know how far away it is, then it is useless for airguns and everything from 10 to 50 yards.....

If you buy a ATN X-Sight 4K PRO 5-20X, then you have rangefinder, but how do you aproach this with the Sightmark Wraith HD 4-32x50, Im confused......

update: Ive called the local seller here now, he says there is no way of knowing the distance to the target with these scope, so using it for airguns is pretty much useless if you dont have a rangefinder, then again using a rangefinder in the dark is also impossible, so this makes this scope even more not so good for airguns..

I will spend my money at a good Hawke or Falcon scope instead...At least now I know.

the ATN 4k PRO wich would be good as it has a rangefinder is like 1500 us dollars here where I live, thats to much money.

I have two Crowns one with a NightForce 4-14x and one with 5-20 pro and ABL and in the last month have shot 2000 birds and 300 plus ground squirrels with the pair. I very seldom have the time to range and shoot, so I set an average range and estimate hold works for me. The biggest negative for the ATN is it will do SO much and has so many options, it's a darn computer you MUST learn. Hope this helps.

Ok, I just dont like to pay 800 dollars for a scope that I cant "parallax adjust" the range within margin and know what distance it is..

I just shot on targets like paper and so, and also the main purpose except its a hightech cool scope 👿, its the night capability, and I can imagine it is very much harder to guess the range in the night without a built in rangefinder..

I dont have the 1500 dollars to buy a ATN 4K PRO at the moment, and its a bit expensive even on a FX Bobcat, so I will look at the Hawke or Falcon FFP scopes in the 500 dollar range, Thanks..

Accurate Ranging for Accurate Hits:

Different shooting situations and equipment will make measuring your range to target either more or less important.... 😄

You'll need less accurate range finding when you have:

🔶 A Gun with More Power

Because of the high power, the pellet will have a higher velocity, and thus drop less till it gets to your quarry.

➔ And therefore the pellet flies flatter (the trajectory is not as steep), and so, the point blank range (PBR) increases, and errors in ranging don't have as much of an impact on the POI.

🔶 Lighter Pellets/Slugs

The lighter the pellets, the faster they fly, the less they drop on their way to the target.

➔ Therefore, the pellet has a flatter trajectory, and so errors in ranging have less effect on the POI.

🔶 A Rifle Zeroed in the Middle of the Range You Are Currently Shooting

If you have targets at ranges from say, 15 to 45 yards, you could zero your gun at 30y and so at least right in the middle range of your targets you'll be spot on, and on the extremes at least you'll not be as far off as if you had the gun zeroed at 20y.

For this purpose I have a quick reference card where I noted down how to change my gun from a 50y zero to a 18y zero (for two very different shooting situations with a certain pellet each).

🔶 A Larger Kill Zone

The larger the kill zone the more elevation error you can have on your POI. How do I get larger kill zones?:

— Hunt quarry with larger kill zones (doooh!)

— Get closer to the quarry

— Wait till the quarry turns to show you their largest kill zone

— Reevaluate whether the quarry you're shooting really does require that head shot

🔶 Especially when shooting long and extrem long range: Shoot Projectiles with a High BC (esp. Slugs)

Pellets have different BCs, e.g., for .22 a BC of 0.010 (typical wadcutter) is low, and a BC of 0.030 (JSB domed pellet) is high. The differences are much larger yet with slugs, that often have BCs of 0.070 and more.

Pellets and slugs at short and mid range experience fairly similar drop. However, pellets because of their low BC will slow down much quicker than slugs with their high BC. And so the difference of drop between pellets and slugs becomes more pronounced as the range gets longer.

Now go and kill something before COVID-19 gets us all! 🤣 ➔ In the neck of the woods where I live we had over two hours waiting time just to get into one of the two supermarkets around the block.... 😄 I'm sure waiting in line for 2 hours with a bunch of complete strangers did not expose us to any infectuous risks, nah....

The Sightmark Wraith HD 4-32×50 is in da house 👍....

played a bit now, installed latest firmware, will check the nightmode later 😁

So far, its a fantastic scope, so clear, I REALLY like it. The magnification feels closer compared to a normal scope, but maybe its my illusion. I just love the digital interface, changing recitals and colors. Now I just need to buy a rechargeable 16650 battery for the IR, as 2x CR123 costs a lot to exchange.

The only downside so far, its heavy, but other then that, I haven't find any so far

I noticed I can make some distances taped on the focus ring, this way I know what distance I am at, I will measure out distances between 10 yards to 50 yards, and make a marking on the ring, I will probably do that next week. I have a rangefinder so it should be pretty easy.
