Silicone oil question

i just watched an airgun video, and when he assembled the gun he used a few drops of silicone oil (liquid). i've always used a silicone gel when lubing an O ring or something. the liquid looked like a good idea. however, a trip to amazon yielded nothing that stood out as a good choice. so what do you guys use? tia!

The "silicone" lube is by nature, more of a liquid than a grease. Maybe like 40 or 50 wt. oil. Thickeners are used to make it into a, non-runny grease.

A couple ounce container of divers silicone will last you close to forever. If I ever need to buy more, I'd get a tube of the lube that Ernest uses as seen in many of his videos. It's just for orings so a little of whatever goes a LONG way. Don't use silicone on moving metal to metal areas.

Factory Team silicon shock fluid, 30 or 40 wt. Recomended by several forum members for lubricating hand pumps, " O " rings etc., not for metal to meral use. I bought off of of Ebay in 2 fl. oz. bottles. I forget the price. db

I use A-MAX silicone airsoft gun lube from gotparts747.com. I do not use oil for assembly as my experience was I got a huge increase in nicked/damaged 0-rings during assembly using oil vs silicone grease.

Radio controlled car silicone shock oil is great stuff and is easy to get locally if you have a radio controlled hobby shop near by. Its also all over on the internet. ebay, amazon, and any of the plethora of radio controlled hobby websites that are out there. That is a hobby that takes things like that very serious so there are a ton of options.

I like the grease over liquid, this stuff works great and will last forever(like JCD said). 2oz. is a lot of silicone for $8.54!

Your local Ace Hardware store has "Plumber's Silicone Grease" in small plastic containers. It's the gel type and works well. For O-rings I usually use the thinner oil, same stuff that comes with the Shoebox Compressor.

Got that from Amazon in a pint container that I fill my small needle bottles with.

Trident divers silicone grease if you have a dive shop nearby...

I use R/C car shock silicone oil, team Losi Racing, it's pure silicone oil and it's at any Hobby shop comes in different viscosity's, I like the heavy thick oil (100 wt)

Use silicone oil for O-rings that slide such as those on a hand pump.

Use silicone grease as an assembly aid, helping to get O-rings past holes or slots without getting nicked.

The silicone oil that shoebox supplies is 100 wt, also called cST 1000.



I use it for o rings and 10 weight for slugs.

I agree with others here on the RC Car shock oil. 100% silicon and available in varying thickness. Pop over to your local RC Hobby store and grab one.
