Simple Pellet/Slug Catcher

I'm sure many people have built pellet/slug catchers. I wanted to share a simple $15 (material cost) pellet/slug catcher that has proved very effective. It's built using a 20qt container, and one .8 cu. ft. of rubber mulch. Both can be purchased for under $8 each at Lowes hardware. When assembled, it weights approx.. 8-10 lbs., holds one full size target as the dimensions are: 16.2" x 12.1" x 8.6" (L x W x H) and can be shot from 10' away and the projectiles don't pass thru the container. Here are pictures of the supplies and finished product.

I made one very similar to that. I put a steel plate 1/16in thick in the bottom. Then the rubber mulch, then filled with heavy water-resistant Styrofoam to the lid inside. I zip-tied the lid on (not planning on removing the lid often). I did add a clip board to the lid to hold the target, one from dollar tree works great. Screw it to the lid so you can change it as it gets shot up. You did a great job and will a lot of fun using it.

I have the same setup but I got a 2X4 and cut it to size so I have two layers at the bottom so it doesn’t penetrate through. You can pick up scrap 2X4 at Home Depot for free If you’re lucky. For the lid I cut open and put a few layers of 5mm bubble wrap and a piece of cardboard on top to hold everything in. Works great. Super quiet vs a metal .22lr target box.
