My buddy just got charged $60 for import fees when shipping from Krale. What the heck? This is the first time this has happened. Did something change?

It's not Krale its the us government and the shipper. If the value is over 600 or 800 then you should get charged. It dosen't happen every time.

I bought many springers from Krale with no import fee. Bought my first pcp from Krale, and surprise- there was the government imposed import fee. It was still a good value.

Pretty sure if it is over $800 you get charged the import fee. I received a $593 order two weeks ago with no import fees.

I could be wrong but getting stuff from other countries the fee varies? I bought an item from South Africa for $2200 the customs fee was $658, but the item shipped from China and not South Africa.

Import fees (customs fees) are levied by US Customs. We, in the US, are lucky because we almost never have to pay customs on shipped (imported) items. Europeans on the other hand are nickeled and dimed all the time by their GOV...in addition to the 20-25% sales tax (VAT)..

When I bought my first P35 from Krale there was no customs fee. Then I bought two more (in one order) and there was a customs fee. P35s are a little under $500 son I guess two of them crossed over the $800 trigger point.

Good to know. Any idea what the fee is based on? In other words, is it a percentage of the overall value or just a flat amount (and does the percentage or flat fee vary by country/region)?

As I understand member reports, as well as my own experience, the fee is set at $66.99 (Brokerage $12/Government $54.99) for any purchase over $800. Customs fees on items from the Netherlands has to do with a US agreement with some colony they have in the Caribbean, if I recall correctly. I contacted Krales, upon first learning of these charges by UPS, they replied, "Sounds normal." WM

It's listed on their site. They don't control, nor do they care about YOUR countries "Import" fees.
- For shipping within The Netherlands and Belgium no shipping costs will be charged for orders over €100,-.
- Firearms, ammunition, bullets, powder and primers cannot be ordered and shipped via the website.
- Packages longer than 80 cm and/or weighing more than 20 kg are not eligible for delivery to a UPS Access Point location.
- When ordered from outside the EU, it's possible that import duties are applied by your own country.

Was the charge from Krale, UPS / FedEx or DHS (Customs)? If they shipped it other than by mail, often UPS or FedEx will tack on a brokerage fee. I have never had a brokerage fee or duty added when something came by mail through the US Post Office with no involvement with UPS or FedEx.
For brokerage, $60 is a bargain actually. My last shipment that came through customs had a $260 brokerage fee on top of the 15% customs tariff. If it had been brokered by FedEx the brokerage fee would have been more like $400.

The US has a detailed database with very specific custom duties based not only on the country where the product is shipping from but also what the item is (I.e air rifle or knife, etc) and the place it was manufactured. You can be charged a different duty importing from Europe a Chinese product vs a German product.
If the package is determined to be above the $800 value then UPS will charge you a broker fee and collect the duty on the behalf of the US government. They typically collect before delivery or on delivery.
I suggest making sure that the right duty code was used by UPS to ensure you were charged the appropriate amount and not for example the duty owed on a fire arm.
If you are in a different country your import system will of course be different.

Yup that's normal like others have mentioned then. Keep it under $800 and you're good to go. Over $800 and expect to pay additional fees/taxes.
