FX Skeptical

I just got off the phone with the guy who my friend had told me about. He said he doesn't come anywhere close to 0.5" groups at 200yds, that 1" groups at 100yds is about as good as he can get with his rig(which is still dam good air gun groups). He said he did make a few 200yd kills with his gun, but that the air was dead still. Now I have to get back in touch with the other knucklehead and let him know he was full of garden fertilizer. In any event I made a connection with another airgunner who has other air gun enthusiast friends and he wants to go shooting together.

With airgun @ 200 ? No way... especially if we bet for money that brain would get into a real clusterf*

Me personally I would be more then happy with an average 1.3 MOA @ 100 shooting an entire tin of .25 MK1's.

I got into f-class with my PB 308 project gun last summer for first time. Considering my optics is high quality x50 sniper scope I can see the POI @ 500 with it.
The PB mounted on Rempel rest and at 200 I got 0.35 MOA at 300 I got 0.43 MOA... I can see right there on the spot and measure from my reticle.
And I was really disappointed with that 308 amo a friend was building for me and started reloading diy.

Occasionally we have new people visit the indoor range and store and some of their questions are close in nature to what the first guy told you. They have heard from someone who didn’t know a whole lot more than they do that XYZ is easily done with these modern air guns etc.
After you have dealt with all the variables that seek to destroy your sub 1” group at 100 yards you become a realist and much more humble

I would say to grab lunch first because I don’t think you’ll be eating much crow. I doubt that anyone is shooting consistent half inch groups at 200 yards with an air rifle.
Kenny
In fact, from what I see at the shooting range that I frequent, very few shooters of any guns consistently shoot 0.5" groups at 200yds, I certainly don't.

Which is why I so love the saying...."The plural of anecdote is not evidence." When they start off by saying, "I know a guy," or "My friend told me," or "My old man used to know a guy that," I know I'm about to hear a load of bs.

That's awesome; you made a new friend to shoot with. I see that you are in California. Where in CA are you? I'm in the Fresno area.

I was talking to a guy today that told me his buddy consistently makes 200+ yard headshots on ground squirrels. I told him I could I only do that with my 204/223 powder burner(and even then, not consistently). He said the guy is making 0.25" to 0.50" five shot groups at 200yds. I believe the shooter is using an FX custom 25 cal with with heavy slugs. The shooter said(we talked to him on the phone) that he is shooting at 1100+ ft/sec, so it is subsonic, but I don't remember what weight slugs he was shooting. I invited him to my gun range to show me because even though I don't think it is impossible, I just feel that with my experiences and seeing people shooting high end powder burning varmint rifles, it just seems rather improbable. I am no fan of eating crow, but I'm willing to eat a whole plate full just to see this guy shoot a couple of sub moa 5 shot groups at 200yds with an air rifle with consistency. If you know of people achieving this sort of accuracy, I'd like to know about it.
Some people are liars.
Put a $100 on the table and tell him to prove it.

I can believe someone can make head shots consistently at 200 yards on squirrels and even group 1/2 inch at that distance (on occasion) with a well-tuned air rifle and particularly with slugs. I'm no world class shooter but I have hit shotgun shells out to 135 yards with .25cal 33.95gr pellets with a hit ratio of about 7 out of ten shots. Of course it was a perfect day with almost no wind.

If you look at my other replies, I talked to the actual airgunner on the phone last night. He never made the 200 yard claim, his buddy did. He said he can shoot 1" at 100yds, but never made claims about consistent headshots at 200 yards. He said that he did make some hits at 200 yards, but it was a dead wind and he just got lucky. We might go shooting together tomorrow, if we do, I'll take pics.

I'm down the road a bit from you in Visalia. My old shooting buddy(RIP) and I used to have some fantastic squirrel shoots in Fresno.
Now that you say that I do believe I have asked you before on a past post. I remember you mentioning your old friend that you hunted with in the Fresno area. I am in Clovis to be specific.

I would be willing to bet he doesn't know what 200 yards looks like. Most people are HORRIBLE at estimating distances. I know many who claim to have hit deer out at 500 yards....well when we shoot I set up a target at 300 yards and they have trouble touching a 10" gong! And wouldn't you know it the range they claim is nothing close to 300 yards ;)

My avatar shooting 500 yards 1/2 minute peep sights score (200, 300 and 500 yds) with a M 14 Rack gun 248/250,

I'd sure like to see the equipment, 200 yards is like a mile for me. I honestly don't know you all do it.
Fifty yards is about my limit for a semblance of consistency with squirrels, though I do occasionally make the odd 60yd to 75yd shot, but those by no means are the rule. Out come the powder burners if I am not getting anything within 75yds.
