Skout Airguns Epoch Compact

I appreciate Nate’s videos. He puts a lot of work in to produce these. Nate has gotten better ~ shooting skills and otherwise. The fact that the review is honest and not a fabricated / cherry picked sample of performance is very valuable to me and a lot of others.

There is still a lack of top tier / polished attention to detail. For instance, I wanted to know within 10 seconds of the video whether that 17” barrel was choked or not. I found out, through questioning the correct source at Skout, that the barrel is indeed not choked. Another tid bit, you show the Corbin produced Skout slugs but didn’t shoot them. I can tell you, those slugs are terrible through that LW barrel. Some will buy those slugs thinking you suggested they are a good option for this bore. They are not. Regardless, keep up the good work homie.
Thanks man! I will address that stuff in the future. The first 10 seconds is the most important.

Good call. I was listening to myself laying out all the stats on the guns and it does drag on. Maybe no one cares about that part, They just want me to shut up and shoot. Thank you sir! -Nate
I'm the opposite. I like reviews that show the CTCs of five 5-shot groups. Also would love for reviewers to report dB of every gun they shoot so I can get a comparison over time. Lastly, nobody reports on length of pull. So maybe at the end, put a slide that has key information like this on each gun you review. It will then be a much more valuable video.

I will never ever buy a pcp based on a YouTube review. Been burned once by that. How can a famous YouTuber that shoot aspirins off of balloons at a hundred yards, using a cheap Tasco scope, hardly ever make it into the finals at major shooting comps? Really opened my eyes. So to those guys, I say C’MON MAN! Go get your hands dirty and calloused up with a real job.

As far as Skout is concerned, yes, I own one. Would I highly recommend the gun to others looking into getting an electronic gun? YES! It’s an awesome platform, with THE best customer support out there!

But, and there is a but... if you’re not one to try and figure things out yourself, it’s not for you. If you hate reading and dissecting word for word a very detailed users manual, nope, not for you. If you can’t change the oil out of your own car, nope, not for you. Lastly, if you despise taking the time to watch the best tutorial videos made in servicing this gun, then for sure it’s not for you.

Hey, Love you guys! Constructive critisism is always welcome. I didn't get paid for that video. I just like Skout. The gun is already in the mail back to them.

I wish I could figure out how to get views. Even when I do my best on a video with a top notch thumbnail, they are topping out at under 20k views. Should I open with shooting instead of gun footage? Maybe I need to show my face and talk directly to people. I'm ready to try anything. I'm considering changing my entire format for a few months to see what happens. Selfie stick time with no editing? That's what blows up on YT right now. I only have 5 days with each gun, so reviews are never going to be "in depth". (New guns are stacked up over here waiting).

Also, once I learned how to tune the M4, I now understand ALL air rifle tuning. So I crossed that bridge about 4 months ago. Good times!

BASICS of TUNING:
1) You want all pellets to fly about 890 FPS. Some heavier ones can go 920 or even 950 fps.
2) You want to first adjust the hammer spring tension to increase or decrease velocity. When that no longer effects velocity, that's when you adjust the regulator pressure.
3) You can turn a reg up when air is in the gun, but never turn one down unless the gun is de-gassed (empty of air).
4) Restricter Port is to fine tune velocity when a very consistent tune has been achieved but the velocity is a little to high.
5) Valve adjustment (M4) can be backed off until it has no effect on velocity, then turned back up to the point where it starts to effect velocity, at that point no extra air is being wasted.

My only concern is the trigger. If I was going to live at the bench with the gun, I’d probably embrace it once I got used to it. When you hunt or pest with a gun, I need feel and a definitive break. I will know more when I shoot it. But right now I have a few ideas on how I might address the trigger if I feel it might get me in trouble in the field. Hopefully if the compact turns out to be a popular field gun, they will give us a field trigger down the road. And us first gen guys can upgrade.

Shooting the gun today. In .30, it’s a cannon. Impressive power and the gun does it while napping. Nice to know you’re not stressing something this compact pushing 45gr at 935fps. Everyone I met at Scout was great but it’s very dangerous for my wallet with them being only 45 minutes away. I really appreciated them walking me through the process of getting it ready to shoot and the barrel. Way better than watching a video or fumbling around trying to convince yourself you know what you’re doing.

The scope they temporarily mounted on my gun was not comfortable for me. But I winged it and what I saw at 100 yards was very encouraging.

Oh they're available already? Crazy. Cool you got to go in person to shoot it.

I always give you a watch even if it’s a product I’m not really interested in. I appreciate the time you put it to put out regular content consistently. I can’t tell you how many of the big guys lots of fx slappies I’ve unsubscribed from as their content is semi annual…lmoa. Same thing with podcasts in this industry. Completely inconsistent content. I realize no one is getting rich off this stuff but my thing is if you are going to do it DO IT or just don’t at all. You do it and I appreciate it. 👍.

Good video on the compact. Skout are good shooting guns. I have the regular epoch but probably won’t buy another as I I don’t really need the compact and the evo is too close to the same thing.

This is hilarious and quite possible. There has been a big movement in paintball to get rid of the electronics and go back to mechanical guns.
Both, Smart Parts and Luxe (Skout's sister companies) offer mechanical frames for their electronic guns. The solenoid gets replaced with a valve and you lose ALL of the benefits of an electronic gun. The shot feel is completely different, but performance is about the same.

Agree it really isn’t a hunting trigger. I don’t feel the push button “safety” is ideal either. Just doesn’t have the feel of a mechanical safety. Would much rather Skout did a safety like daystates.

I built a trigger tonight and now I have a two stage hunting trigger. I swapped to a bigger bottle and unfortunately Mr. McLeakerson showed up. I guess now is as good time as any to learn how to work on it.

Where is the leak ? Haven’t had to do anything to mine other than change the little o ring in the on off (original epoch). I’ve watched a bunch of videos though and the regs and valve look pretty easy to deal with.

Can hear it hissing right above the grip. Took the valve out then got the HPR disassembled when the sandman came a knocking. Will try to figure it out tomorrow.

Gun is fixed and I’m back to shooting. It’s a simple gun to work on and just stupid accurate. I would like to say I’m impressed but after visiting Scout, then taking the gun completely apart and seeing the thought that went into this gun, if you know anything about guns it should be expected to shoot. Good job and glad I bought it. Commercial over.

That's alot coming from you....making me think about it again

Glad you got it fixed. What was the problem?
