Skout Skout EVO debut!!

Nice shooting and nice EVO amigo!

I don't want to try to tell you how to improve accuracy with that gun, I know you will figure it out yourself, but I do own that Exact gun with over 5,000 rounds through it now, and may if I throw a suggestion ir 2 your way to try for yourself?

1) put one of your STO High flow moderators on it
2) The 22.07 should provide slightly tighter groups for you, ever so slight, but better on mine.
3) Lightly lube the 22.07 pellets for best results

You have already figured out the gun prefers a clean bore by reading your post, the gun will Definitely let you when it is time to clean the barrtel .. ;)

Enjoy it man and Happy New Year

Yeah, when I compare the AEA 21.9 and JTS 22.07, the dimensions are identical except the JTS has the mini “tit” on the dome. Probably the extra 0.17 grains. From an FX liner they shoot identical also at 975 fps. Haven’t compared them yet from my SubMOA, but Mike Manabe @manabeknives has the barrel and is comparing that to his .22 LW bull barrel in the Epoch. So far they both shoot both pellets well at 50Y, although when pushing a pellet through the lands on the LW are much more smooth than the SubMOA. He’ll post a detailed report in a separate topic once he’s done comparing them at 100Y.

Got my new EVO the other day. Family obligations prevented immediately gratification with shooting and testing it! Then the weather turned dangerous around here! This past Saturday morning though, things were just right!

I threw the portable bench in the truck and all my other gear and scooted on over to my buddies place where I could stretch the EVO’s legs a bit! Okay-okay, some details; I got this one with the .22 LW 25” option which is a 1:15.7 non-choked bore. Acquired with hopes of shooting some .22 pellets and definitely some slugs.

Started with 25.39 MRD pellets to sight-in. Got on paper and the FX True BC Chrony told me I was shooting these way hot! Okay, same tune with slugs then…. I love Altaros CNC turned slugs. Not only are they amazingly consistent but they have crazy good ballistic coefficients (BCs) as well. What does a good BC translate to: down range retained energy, less drop and wind drift fighting 👊🏻‼️ The 40gr were the first to fly. Out of the box setting has these slinging at 875 fps. That’s actually a great speed for the Altaros as these boat-tail precision bullseye seekers don’t really like the speed other slugs do. Immediately and with a gleam in my eye, I saw these Toros and the LW bore were a match 😁 To 50 yards then. Clover ☘️ leaf 🧐 To 100 then. Bam 💥 1/2” 5-shot group. Now we’re cooking with gas baby!!

Went to the 32.3gr Toros and they performed very good, although, a bit hot at this tune (945 fps) I slowed them down and they did about the same. Not bad but not as precise as their bigger brother the 40gr! Back to pellets; adjusted tune further and tried 25.39gr MRDs at 970 fps ~ not good. Slowed fps more and they got a little better. Slowed again to 910 fps at 50 yards and they were okay. Switched to AEA 21.9gr and immediately improved. Upped speed with these to 950 fps and they got tight! Cleaned bore, which by the way, is super easy with the Skout! Pulled the barrel assembly and ran patches. Shot the 21.9gr AEA again and they seasoned right in. Shot this 5-shot group and that is my pinky for comparison.

One of my objectives with this setup is to shoot pellets at 50 yard benchrest. Okay, I feel good about that and have JTS 22.07gr coming from Pyramyd Air to try as well. They’ll deliver on Friday 1/3/25. Back to slugs……Retuned for 40gr Toros, this time at 895 fps, and I went straight to 100 yards. Cleaned bore again. I got several good results and then decided to staple a new target down range on my target box. Settled in on the EVO and smashed this 5-shot group:

I am STOKED!! My fun time had expired! I picked all up, loaded up the truck and headed to the house. After some chores I had to measure that 100 yard group with the 40gr Toros. Below is the result and some pictures of the EVO. I was shooting off bags and although pretty good and stable, shooting with bipod and rear Saber Tactical Pro Universal adjustable rest (mouth full), I must suspect will be even better. The portable bench does leave something to be desired. Can’t wait to hit a real range and solid concrete bench!! Stay tuned…….

What kind/brand of joy stick is that?

Hey Derrick ...
Thanks for the pictures of your Slug shots on the Evo!
When I saw those results from the slug shots, i knew i had to try it.
I had purchased some of the Altaros Kings a while back, but slugs gave me a headache trying to figure them out
initially, i had some problems getting to pressure to shot the Kings at speed. I thought it was a the spring in the HPR so i asked Skout for a larger spring.
But i didn't realize I had a blown o-ring in the little piston in the HPR.
With both of them installed, ayyaining the pressure was no problem, though i wonder why such a big difference on the hpr settings??
The lpr naturally jumped up as the hpr was raised and ended up at about 260
I shot these on a N50 card at 100yard indoor range at around 885-895 ..all shots are consecutive
Slugs had a HBN coating for lubrication ..a tiny amount of powder in a zip-lock bag and gently tumbled til coated.
This was incredible for me ...never had much luck with slugs until now
Thank you for the information!
Mike

Nice shooting, Mike. Were those Altaros ATP Kings the 5.50mm or the 5.52mm? Is this from the LW 1:15.75 barrel?

Yes, i am shooting the same set-up as the OP . 5.52 and the LW bull barrel
the diference was that he has an Evo and i am shooting an Epoch ..but still wondering why the big HPR difference?
and i need to play around with the dwell and lpr a bit more
