Skout Skout EVO debut!!

Hey Derrick ...
Thanks for the pictures of your Slug shots on the Evo!
When I saw those results from the slug shots, i knew i had to try it.
I had purchased some of the Altaros Kings a while back, but slugs gave me a headache trying to figure them out
initially, i had some problems getting to pressure to shot the Kings at speed. I thought it was a the spring in the HPR so i asked Skout for a larger spring.
But i didn't realize I had a blown o-ring in the little piston in the HPR.
With both of them installed, ayyaining the pressure was no problem, though i wonder why such a big difference on the hpr settings??
The lpr naturally jumped up as the hpr was raised and ended up at about 260
I shot these on a N50 card at 100yard indoor range at around 885-895 ..all shots are consecutive
Slugs had a HBN coating for lubrication ..a tiny amount of powder in a zip-lock bag and gently tumbled til coated.
This was incredible for me ...never had much luck with slugs until now
Thank you for the information!
Mike

The pleasure is all mine! Great shooting, Mike 😁

The Skout EVO and .22 Altaros 40gr slugs put me on top of the podium with a match high score of 37 of 40 for the Benchrest Silhouette win!! TexTreme Shooting Sports hosted this match in China Spring, TX. I managed to take 2nd in the Pellet class running the same rig in .30 shooting AEA 50.5s. It was a bit hectic changing calibers and tuning 4 times, alternating between setups for each relay but the EVO made it simple!

GZ on the Silhouettes !
I thank you again for openning my eys to the Altaros, but my wallet has a diffent opinion ..lol
have some more Altaros on the way...broke,but having fun!
i'm wondering what the other guy's expansion is conveying?
Mike
Thank you!

He’s got a Skout EVO as well. He’s shooting a 35” barrel kit with a TJ. I can imagine what he’s thinking. He’s probably thinking slugs need to be considered. Eric is an engineer so he’s contemplating for sure 🤔

question on the Chrono...do you use G1 for slugs and GA for pellets?
Thanks
Mike

Fantastic job, Derrick! Congratulations! I'm really happy to see the Evo deliver winning performance while being used for multiple tunes going from pellets to slugs and back multiple times on a single gun platform. It's particularly impressive that this was with full barrel and caliber changes as well as the HPR, LPR and Dwell tune settings. This is why I put digital gauges on mine... hoping it will make it a little more accurate and quicker than analog gauges when trying to return the HPR and LPR to a very specific set point to do just this changing and compete with one gun for a while. I don't think I would have ever tried this shooting my Impacts in competition. It seemed like every time I changed a tune, it was more a little re-tuning vs just changing to another known tune.

I'm hoping to pick up another Evo tomorrow before the Skout sale ends, if they still have inventory. However, I'm hoping to let my dad use it so we can both compete shooting the same ammo and rifles that have been tuned as similarly as possible. I'm really looking forward to us trying N50 Benchrest League together. I figure it may be a while before we have .30 cal capability, but .22 cal slugs and pellets should keep us plenty occupied. Skout seems to be having real issues with .30 cal barrel supplier reliability. I'm beginning to wonder if SubMOA is going to continue being a Skout barrel offering. The best made, most accurate shooting barrel in the world that you just can't get your hands on will never help you score as high as the one you can actually shoot with.

I learned yesterday that Skout has 1:26, 1:40 & 1:48 barrels for the 30 cal. The 1:26 is not getting great results with the 50 pellets and the 45 AEAs are getting extremely amazing results. The 50 pellet supposedly needs a slower twist rate.

I have doubts abouts the quality of Submoa
For a company touting such a high degree of accuracy, it is not a great barrel!
I was able to borrow a .22 Submoa barrel...brand new..from a friend
The shots from that barrel were not submoa...they weren't even MOA.
I am going to do a full write-up on what i experienced ..working on it today
For now, i will say that Skout should find another after-market barrel for their platform.

I'll offer my 30 cal Sub-MOA for testing for anyone in AZ area.

I was talking to Darryl at Skout Airguns this morning. I asked about the .30 cal barrel situation, particularly about the SubMOA barrels, and it wasn't a good answer. They don't have any and have no clue if/when any might arrive. He didn't make any kind of statement that they were dropped, just that he didn't know what the future was going to hold for the SubMOA barrel at Skout. They just can't seem to get them.

I just wrote a nice little personal speculation on why this is, but after proofing it, I deleted it as I think it may be best not to speculate on this publicly. Speculation often gets confused with accusation, and I don't want to be at the center of that. I'll just say what I know to be true.

I know I've been waiting for months to get a SubMOA barrel in .30 cal, based solely on the perceived quality from forum and internet hype. I know there have been some outstanding samples of great shooting barrels, but I also know there have been what I consider to be too large of a percentage of barrels that do not perform at the perceived expectation, especially given the cost.

I know I need a .30 cal barrel for competition that is capable of shooting sub-moa, and I'm not holding out for a SubMOA barrel any longer. (Do you see the absolutely brilliant AND effective marketing technique employed there?) Hopefully Skout will get something established with a different competition-level barrel manufacturer soon, as I know they're working on a few possibilities.

I've said it before, but the best manufactured and shooting barrel in the world, when you can't get it, won't score as high as the barrel you can put on your gun and fire.

I’m thinking for the barrel I have and loaned for testing, it may not be representative of fully prepped and conditioned SubMOA barrels. I won’t speculate (much) but it appears to have been a failure to communicate between parties. Here’s what I was told by Tom Costan of AAA and SubMOA.

—————————————————————————-

PLEASE send that barrel back to Scout so Scout can send to Sub-Moa for a replacement. Simply put, that barrel should have never been installed in a gun. Rest assured that is not what Sub-Moa produces and many procedures have been put in-place to prevent this type of thing in the future.

Also, keep in mind all Sub-Moa barrels to-date in Scout rifles we provided as blanks. This means the gun builder is responsible for crowning, chambering, internal and external finishing.

It is unfortunate this barrel has made it to the end-user; it is not indicative of Sub-Moa's commitment to producing the best airgun barrels on the planet.
——————————————————————————

So, once this process is complete, and when/if I get a true fully prepped and conditioned .22 SubMOA barrel, I’ll make a separate post showing the accuracy of the barrel.
