No matter the speed your Barrel / Slug combo prefers, faster you go, while slug may like more speed, guaranteed your barrel does NOT !!
Soft lead is VERY prone to leading up a barrels bore & speeds above 850 or so will become worse & worse faster you go.
Yes many do, self included ... but keeping the fouling in check becomes part of the regiment if slugs is what your only shooting.

Many of us come from a background using firearms and know this all too well 🤪

Not exactly .30, but bigger than .25. Some custom builds: .308, 7mm, and .257. Also working on a 6.5mm.

Max velocity where I’ve had good results is 1060fps. I feel that 1020 to 1040fps is a safer bet as the max in most cases.

Actually, even slower (<1000 or <900fps) can be better in some instances. Optimal velocity depends substantially on your ELR distance.

Thank you. I was hoping to set it to 1020 or around there, obviously it will be dependent on what slugs I use, because accuracy is what is most important to me. I have a chrono on order, so come spring ill be working on a tune. We shall see!

Would be sweet if we could build out a user experience based database here, maybe as a sticky. I know I know, every gun and barrel is different but having a list of based on cal / diameter / weight / barrel twist / barrel type / speed / distance with good results might be helpful to narrow the test range down a quite a bit… like it is common knowledge to not shoot Altaros too fast, just more systematic and in on spot. Cavedweller attempted something similar for ghost tunes with different barrels, pressure, springs and pellets - turned out to be very helpful for a lot of people, why not with slugs as well. Might save us a couple of “at what speed should I shoot this slug” and “what slug for XYZ gun” posts…
