Slugs in the Superior Liner

I just got my.25 Impact back and did some shooting today. I have a superior liner. I tried the FX hybrids, Nsa 26, 29 dish, 33, Varmint knocker 31. None of them would group under an inch at 30yds. Tried them all at different speeds. I thought the new superior liner would shoot the lighter slugs well. Not sure if its the liner or something im doing. The JSB 34 pellets still shooting great though. I beginning to think I might just stick to pellets. Just seeing if anyone else has had similar luck.

Just a friendly reminder that pellets are very forgiving speed deviation FPS . Slugs are finicky you have to literally tune specifically for the slug you and more importantly your gun prefers. The world of slugs is very tedious and time consuming as well as the amount of slugs that you have to run through the gun so the gun tells you what it prefers. The time and effort is worth the pay off because the slugs simply out perform the pellets in every way. Good luck

Shooting my impact with the superior heavy liner 700mm- just finished a tune for .25 hybrids, consistently 1 hole 10 round groups at 52 yrds. Ave speed 952 fps.

If I run em faster, groups open up. Slower, same thing.

My advice: screw hammer set screw in until you almost can't cock it on MAX powerwheel. Then unscrew it a bit till you can cock it. Then untighten your valve damper to 4 rings. Over your chrony shoot 5 shots or so and note velocity. Now screw valve damper in a bit and test speed. repeat. Do this until speed drops about 10-15 fps.

Now, drop wheel to MIN. Shoot groups. Adjust wheel. Try groups on every power wheel setting until you find the tightest one.

Don't be dismayed... It may take a good bit of changing things around, testing, and patience. They WILL tighten up when you find that resonance point.

I tried shooting slugs out of my .25 impact with horrible results. It was however a pellet liner and not a slug liner.

I sold it and bought and edgun r3m .25 with Huma reg and power plenum. It shoots slugs and pellets equally well with zero poi shifts. 1" groups at 100 yards are fairly regular.

5/8" at 50 almost without fail with slugs. Pellets do a tad bit tighter at 50, but at 100 the slugs have a field day over the pellets.

I did notice however that slugs foul up.my barrel really badly and quite quickly.

Perhaps every 100 shots or so I have to give the barrel a thorough cleaning.

I hardly ever cleaned the barrel in my impact. I'm beginning to suspect that may well have been the result of my Terrible groups.

Good luck!

Yo, that’s a good video. One thing I noticed was my power wheel doesn’t have that much variance. For instance, max, 5, and 4 almost shoot the same velocity on mine.

That is what happens when your over on your hammer or under on your reg, turn your hammer down until 5 and max are at least 30-50 FPS apart, or turn the reg up slowly until the same.the rest will follow. Or stay where you are at and assume 4 is max, I’m going to guess 3 is 50 FPS slower than 4 currently? Try it👍🏻

Yup. Your hammer is too high. You’re wasting air on higher wheel settings with no fps increase. Turn hammer screw down two or more full 360 degree turns and try the same procedure. Patience, persistence. It will pay off.

I sized my slugs to .247" for the Superior liner...That's the size you want - IMO. A whole lot less lead fouling through the choke, and groups tightened up substantially from .250". You're probably okay though with the hybrids having a hollow base to squeeze through the choke better.

I also cast slugs. I have discovered recently that pure lead cast don't do nearly as well as cast with a little tin included for strength. it was quite the difference in my initial test, but will be verify this more when time permits.
