What price range do you consider budget friendly and what would be the biggest small game you'd be going after?

So I'm guessing under $400.00. squirrel, rabbit, and maybe some birds. I live in South West Louisiana so not a whole lot of options!!

i would try local available Walmart Crossman's first , just "plane old" domes or hollow point learn to shoot the gun . target @ 60 feet or whatever distance you can closer is fine 25 feet ? what ever you can .

My HW50 is in .22 and it really likes the JSB 15.89. If it was in .177 I’d look closely at the JSB 10.34.

Easily one of the most favorite rifles. I have one in 22 as well. Workmanship, fit, finish, and overall performance is extremely good. I would recommend disassembling it before firing it and cleaning the compression chamber and seal. The gun is very easy to disassemble. Also, they like gto lead free pellets in addition to others mentioned

Diana is a magnum omph to hold on to also , the HW50 is just a sweet shooter and plenty for what he wants to do .

The HW95 is a nice choice too but slightly over budget. It'll give you just a bit more oomph than a 50S while not being overly large

Honestly my gamo whisper fusion mach1 .22 is my favorite squirrel woods thug.. lol. To me a hw in .22 is just too weak . I prefer them in .177 no complaints there.

Could get a ruger airhawk and a decent scope for well under 400. Good gun, it's a diana 34 clone. I had one, gave to my buddy for pest squirrels, and it's taken its fair share. My brother bought one after having shot mine. I'd buy another, but I get to shoot the 2 aforementioned ones whenever I'm at their houses.

What's sad is think of all the break barrel guns out there , gamo, hatsan, crosman , umarex ,ECT ... I mean 100's of them , but only a select few ever really get suggested or recommended.. ..lol.
