small pits in s/t barrel

Hey guys. Out of curiosity I removed the barrel on my .25 wildcat. When I held it to a light and looked down the barrel I saw some small pits just before the rifling. My groups are great at 50 yds, 1/2 inch- 75 just ok, and at 100+ not good. I've always used patches tied to yarn, sucked through the barrel with shop vac and pulled through to clean it. A couple wet patches using wd40, then some dry ones. I've never put anything else through the barrel. I usually shoot water bottles or apples at 100+ yds without too much trouble. I had surgery, took over a month off, just went back to shooting .I set targets up at 115yds where I shoot the futhest, apples etc. Using jsb kings and heavies had no better than 5 inch groups. I lube the pellets with napier. I don't know if the pitting is the reason for such inaccuracy. There's no wind. Has anyone else encountered this?

I have a strong feeling that if you shoot the same pellets unlubed your accuracy will return and maybe even better than before. Almost all smooth twist barrels are more acurate after break in without lube. My FX BOSS .30 and FX ROYALE .25 did not shoot nearly as accurate if I lubed my pellets. The group size more than doubled. After 10 shots unlubed your accuracy may come back. I would re clean barrel and then shoot 10 unlubed pellets before testing for accuracy. Let me know what happens.

If you are seeing any pits then you need to change the barrel. It may be lead dust though. But if there are pits inside the barrel especially before pressed in choked rifling you need the barrel to be replaced. My Wildcat has a mirror polished, spotless barrel, including the rifled choke.

Thanks guys. About a month and a half ago I tested accuracy with jsb kings at 65 yds using unlubed, napier lubed, and pledge lubed pellets, shooting 40 rounds of each and cleaning the barrel between sets. The most accurate was napier then plegde then unlubed. I read one of Teds posts stating that the mk1's like a clean barrel. After that disappointing shooting session I cleaned the barrel and went out shooting yesterday . The accuracy was great at 100+ yds. What a difference. I am still going to test accuracy with these jsb heavies using unlubed as well. I am concerned about the small pitting inside the barrel, but it seems to be shooting very accurate as long as I clean the barrel frequently. Would I contact AOA to get a new barrel, or Fx? Thanks guys
