Small + QUIET to kill rats at close range ?*?

Serious rat infestation: Need to kill hundreds of big rats. Must be QUIET.

Very little room, no rifle will fit. From 4 inches to 4 feet max room, mostly 1 foot.

Need to be able to fire many times in quick succession.

Air gun? Pellets? Tranquilizer gun?

I know zero about guns so baby talk explain this please. Tell me exactly what I need to buy, what kind of ammo, what to make it QUIET.

Is there a store that can help me? Name of store, location? I am near Portland, Oregon. Online URL?

Money is not a factor, will spend whatever it takes to get a weapon / tool / devise to kill these rats.

Fiberglass/plastic fence panels right behind rats so don't want to destroy fence.

Have trap I can put rats into and drown immediately, and metal gloves to pick them up, in case they aren't dead yet.

Also willing to pay well for a good "shooter" to come kill the rats. Need help!

I think you would be better off contacting an exterminator that specializes in rodent control. The restrictions you have listed and your lack of expertise in airguns would be an impediment to any airgun you would want to purchase. If you want to do it yourself I would recommend a CO2 operated pistol. The Diana Chaser would probably be a good option. It will do the job at close range and being CO2 would not require the additional expenses incurred with a Pre-Charged Pneumatic. It is also relatively quiet. You can pick one up here:

I did call an exterminator, the one best recommended. He came out and said it was too severe an infestation for him to deal with.
I've been using traps successfully but the smart rats figured out how to get out of the traps.

Willing and expecting a learning curve with whatever device, and willing to put in the time to learn.

Thank you, I will look up the Diana Chaser.

I would say that he was not the best exterminator. Call a couple more exterminators. Just my opinion.

Take care, Bernie.

Any PCP will need support meaning Air compressor or Carbon fiber air tank to keep the gun filled. There are only a couple reliable simi autos I know of Huben or Leshiy2. Next up are repeater type, and as others have suggested CO2. light weight pellets might help from to much penetration such as alloy pellets. most air guns can be moderated/silenced generally adding to the overall length. The lower the FT/LBS the quieter the gun.

Couple of thoughts. First, get another exterminator opinion. Trying for a permanent solution with an air gun may be a fool's errand in this case. You could end up with many of them dying in places where they can't be retrieved, so then you have that oder and disease potential. Ultimately, whatever is attracting the rats has to be removed, or secured in a location that can be effectively closed.

I have been appeasing these rats by feeding them dog kibble so they won't eat my house.
But there are too many rats now since they can get out of the traps.
Cannot use poison because they would die in the walls, crawlspace and 'attic' and make house unlivable.
Tried NOT feeding them and one chewed thru the ceiling so the appeasing has worked. Smart rats. They are sort of trained.

Time to get rid of all the rats. I just don't know what type of tool is best.
