Ok ran into this commercial. Yes I know it's old but it talks about how the smooth twist barrels are revolutionary compare to other barrels cause it doesn't have rifling all the way. It's smooth so the pellets glides like a hot knife in butter. Giving maximum speed, Reducing fraction and increase BC. Then the last 4 inches or so it hits the rifling giving it the correct twist for each caliber. It reduced wind speed and boost accuracy on each shot. It is the most accurate barrels.....made me think, so why are fx liners/barrels rifle all the way now if this commercial says the smooth twist was the superior barrel. Should we go back to smooth bore with rifling only at the last 4 inches??? Hmmmm

All 3 of my guns have Original Smooth Twist barrels. Unbelievably accurate PELLET barrels! Most people these days want the option of shooting slugs, hence a fully rifled barrel. Slugs need a fully rifled barrel for spin stabilization. Pellets (Diabolo shape) are aerodynamically stabilized. Years down the line with my guns & I'm still amazed how accurate OST barrels are.

My fingers are crossed, that FX will eventually introduce a new rifle, and re-introduce the Smooth Twist pellet barrels.
A new Royale, with various barrel length/caliber options, and threaded for a moderator would be great, as not everyone has the need to shoot slugs.

The 'smooth twist' idea is far from new.
Holland & Holland, English gunmakers, built a rifle which only had the last three inches rifled in 1885.
It was called the Paradox, and was the invention of Colonel George Fosbery, the same man that invented the automatic revolver.

And if you have an original FX Royale 400, it will shoot slugs very well. At least in .177 cal. That's all I shoot in mine.
