Smooth Twist barrels

It depends on your criteria and whose rifled barrel you are comparing it to.

They can both be excellent.

its rare you hear about a smoothtwist being inaccurate. They tend to require less cleaning but be a little more pellet fussy I.e. Only JSB's on the whole. Some ST's will like others but mine certainly doesn't (.22 bought last year)

a good quality rifled barrel barrel like the LW on daystates will like be next to no different in accuracy but may require cleaning more often.

I would hazard a guess that if you were to look at groups shot from both barrels at various ranges you most likely wouldn't be able to tell much difference if you weren't prejudist by knowing that there was more than 1 barrel shooting them.

I have two rifles with .22 smooth-twist barrels and they are both accurate; both require minimal bore cleaning and both are not overly pellet picky. Every domed-type pellet I have tried in each rifle worked well once I found the velocity that particular pellet liked. So far (in my experience) the only pellets my smooth-twist barrels truly do not like are wadcutters.

I have a FX 400 Royale in .22 caliber and it has a smooth twist barrel.
With that gun I can shoot matchsticks in two practically every shot at 50 yds. assuming the wind is friendly. At 100 yds. that gun will put shot after shot into a quarter size circle if the wind cooperates
A friend of mine shot a 5 shot group at 47 yds. that measured .132 CTC.
I feel that the smooth twist barrel is just as good as the conventional rifled barrel, at least at the range of 100 yds. and under.
I would not hesitate one second to order another rifle with this barrel.
Hope this gives you some help.

PS. I use JSB 18.1 Gr. pellets.

Sir, no BS
I sort my pellets into groups based on .1 grain wt. differences and what I stated is in fact the truth w/ this rifle. I did fail to mention that this rifle is regulated.
I feel that you calling me a liar is uncalled for and is not justified. Your comment has rendered considerable offense-I will not respond any further to your vitriol.
Have a good day.

I do think he was referring to my user name Bluestone, shortened to BS. In hindsight, perhaps not the wisest choice of user names.

A couple of weeks ago I received a Fx Royale 500 . This is My first pcp .But I have been shooting pumpers and break barrels and powder burners for years .The Fx is by far the most accurate rifle I have ever shot .At 25 yards using jsb s a full magazine will be one ragged hole .700 rounds so far and the rifle is shooting better all the time .My grand daughter (11 yrs old) on Her first time shooting a scoped rifle after a few practice shoots put a full magazine into a group that could be covered with a quarter at 25 yards . a new shooter was born . Bluestone, after a great many PCP guns I haven't found one yet that wasn't fussy. One of the main complaints regarding smooth twist barrels, they are fussy. Some of the LW barrels, particularly the ones made for Weihrauch tend to strip lead off the pellet. Pellet lube can help with this but a better more permeant solution is to have the barrels polished. Any good airgun smith can perform this for you at a very reasonable reasonable price. The smooth twist barrel will still be fussy.

Thank you for that.

I have tried lubing the pellets with mixed success; they work fine for a while then suddenly go all to pot.

I have not tried polishing the bore. But you are right about fouling; the choke are on mine is the problem area in lead build-up.

If smooth twist barrels are pellet fussy then my vote has to go with the Pulsar, which has a real, old fashioned, barrel.

Man, I wish I would of seen this earlier. Thanks for those who understood what I WAS REFERRING TO THE NAME BLUESTONE. I JUST SHORTIN IT UP.

CANOEIST, I DIDNT MEAN BULLpoop TO WHAT YOU WERE SAYING. SO PLEASE DONT TAKE OFENCE AS TO WHAT BS MEANT. IN HIND SIGHT I WISH I WOULD OF JUST SPELLED IT OUT. SORRY ABOUT THAT.
