So how did YOU get into the world of PCP's

I bought a Benjamin trail nitro piston 2 .22 from a box store. Started plinking stuff and enjoying ITS accuracy out to 65 yards or so. I THEN ran across a site GTA and read about others who also had nitro pistons and how theirs were doing ECT... I THEN noticed a tab called the DARKSIDE ...and thought WTH? I clicked on it...read about the accuracy of PCP's and decide ..oh I WANT one of those...but a great cheap one!! SOUND FAMILIAR ? I ran across a site called AGN and after some reading decided to get a Daystate Regal XL .22...its accuracy, I was hooked, it was all over but the crying. It's a deep dark hole and I tell others IF you decide to really get into PCP's , might as well jump in with both feet because it's harder to ease gently in..kinda like jumping in a pool of cold water.LOL I wanted a great cheap PCP when I got my feet wet lol, like most...my next PCP was Daystate Redwolf .22 ...no longer was worrying about cheap. Then a LCS SK19. .22 and a RAW TM1000 .177 and a RAW HM1000X .22....its been a learning experience and a blast. I keep telling myself I don't need another PCP...😁

How do you like the LCS SK19. .22 ......LQQK'n at one in .25 cal

****Are they HEAVY w/ scope to carry a long dist for using to hunt Moving Jackrabbits

Do you find it accurate

Mine is .22. Has never jammed. Here is a 10 shot group shot Easter morning at 25 yards shooting JSB 25.39. Get a sling and it should be fine carrying it to hunt. I have. ATN Digital scope on mine that feels like IT weight 5 pounds LOL. I have a video in the PCP section showing me shooting it later the same day. It's a fun air rifle to shoot. ***Do They JAM!!!!!

Thanks!

through necessity .. its legal to shoot firearms here in my yard but i have neighbors and dont like to because sometimes its almost daily or multiple times a day .. i garden and raise chickens and needed something - springers i tried and they are not good enough to be effective ... so my first one was a marauder and that was a game changer, imo its MORE effective than a .22lr .. since then ive bought a few others just to have some options .. theyre all about the same as far as effectivness imo .. pcp's rock and you dont need a 3k$ jckoff gun to get an effective one lol ... not that i dont appreciate nice things, but theres alot of people that sell the idea that you have to have this fancy euro-named jckoff gun to really be good .. not even remotely true ...

Springers not good enough to be effective and a Marauder MORE EFFECTIVE than .22LR? We'll certainly have to disagree on both points.

The above LCS SK19. .22 ........................

NICE set up but WOW! that is heavier than a WWII B.A.R.

Great to set up and wait.......However I have Far too much "ADD" and like to walk an flush out Jacks...Semi auto them on the run With 3 power scope (large Field of view)

Had a FX Revo...Never jammed...rare weighed in at 5.6 lbs Small tank... w/ Leupold 3 X 9 efr that weighed 11 OZ package 6.8 Lbs Sadly in .22 cal was simply No Impact value, however now with Hades......might still be accurate w/enough impact???

So the post question is "So how did you get into the world of PCP's"

Of course, some responses are arguing about how 'great' springers are. That's not what the guy asked.

So here's my story.

Years of shooting powder in all shapes and sizes, could never shoot in our back yard. Then ammo started getting scarce followed quickly by increasing in price. Sure, it's available now, if you want to buy one box at a time (limit) for 3 times the cost. I'm talking powder ammo.

I started thinking about air guns. I have a 30 year old CO2 Crossman 22 rifle that's pretty weak - understandably, by design. And it won't shoot if it's really cold out in the winter (Ohio). I brought it back out of storage, and was pretty disappointed, especially after shooting handgun and rifle powders for so long.

I did some research and got scared away from PCP. I didn't want to spend a lot, and I watched way too many Youtubes about guys complaining about hand pumping rifles like the Umarex Gauntlet. One guy looked like Arnold Schwarzenegger and he almost passed out before he hit 3,000psi hand pumping. :) (Slight exaggeration). And a compressor? Just to shoot in the backyard? Maybe the air cylinder option. Nice, except there's no scuba shops where there isn't water. So I decided on what I thought was the best option. Gamo Swarm Gen 2, 22 cal break barrel. Before even buying it, it seemed crazy to me to expect accuracy from a barrel that pivots 120 degrees. But the Youtube reviews!!! Oh, the reviews were glorious. It's so accurate. It's so great. And so easy to 'cock' compared to the Magnum. Ok, I'm sold. I bought it on Amazon - (great return policy by the way).

2 Day shipping, came with a scope, and I ran (drove) over to my son's house to check it out.

He's ex military, I'm just an old guy (66) who thinks he's not old. We start shooting it.

What the heck? This thing is terrible. The 5 or 10 shot spread was really bad.

Back to Youtube that night. Oh, the barrel's dirty. Oh, I have to shoot 1,000 rounds through it. And Oh, I have to find a pellet that the gun 'Likes'!!! Wonderful. And the best of all. We're holding it all wrong. You can't 'hold the gun', you have to just lay it like a cloud, on your hands. DON'T GRAB IT. AND DON'T LET THE BUTT END REST ON YOUR SHOULDER. It's got to float. The Artillery hold is what they call it. Oh my god. And to make it worse, I paid $300 for this thing.

Ok, so I bought 7 or 8 different brands of pellets. Shot a good 500 rounds through it. Bought a tub of Ben Gay for my arm after cocking it so many times (I told you I'm old).

My son got disappointed very quickly and said, just forget about this air gun thing. I said I was going to look for a pcp option because I read so many good things about it.

Thanks to the great people on this forum, I read around Christmas time a few months ago about a great deal on the Benjamin Maximus for $145. What? That's too good to be true. And it pumps up to only 2,000psi so a hand pump is fine.

Well, we've been shooting that thing 2 or 3 times a week for a few months now. I put a silencer and a cheap scope on it, and although I don't have close up photos of a hole in a target where I can say I put 10 shots through that one hole, it's fairly accurate. Plenty accurate, very quiet, a really joy to shoot. No cocking, the air pumping is easy, it shoots all the kinds of pellets the break barrel didn't 'like', so I couldn't be happier.

The only reason I'm still sitting on only that one pcp rifle is that my wife and I are aggressively paying down our mortgage, to pay it off so we can both retire this summer. Once that happens, I'm getting a compressor, and then I'll be asking everyone which next rifle I should get. I'm looking at the Marauder bolt action, Air Venturi Avenger (I really like the reviews on this one), or maybe the Gauntlet.

Anyway, because you asked for opinions, I won't buy another air rifle or pistol that's not pcp. You can argue with that, which I'm sure you will. And show another closeup of a target from 12 inches away that you shot at from 200 yards. :) But you won't convince me.

Oh, the Swarm Gen 2? It's back at Amazon, sitting on a shelf somewhere. You won't find it in my gun room.

Started with a Crosman 760. Pops set up a range in the basement. Had a few different springers, a HW 55, BSA Scorpion. Shot lots of powder for many years. Pops is now living on the farm with me. Last spring he started griping about this Crosman 160 another retired teacher gave him. So I read up online and rebuilt it (with a high flow valve a previous owner had already ported and polished) dang it was fun. Several cottontails, and tree rats later us old farts decided we needed something with a scope. He got a Gauntlet, then an Avenger. I bought a heavily modded bottled Gen 1 Marauder this one in .25. we are loving it. I worry some days that after watching a Ted's Holdover youtube he will tell me an Impact is on the way. But what the hey, he is having fun so am I. Of course today he asks "if you bought a Leshy II, what calibre would you get?" Nice trade up from the G lol. Long and winding road, back close to the beginning.

Purchased a Gamo Urban and shot it a lot. Coming from springers, I was amazed at the repeatable accuracy at 40 yards and beyond. Hitting small targets with confidence. I was hooked. Used it for pesting, chipmunks to chucks, the effectiveness was undeniable. Furthest range finder measured kill 80 yards. Purchased a Brocock Compatto and that one sealed the deal. Not looking back, I love shooting targets, plinking and pesting with my sweet PCPs.

I got a cheap springer at a box store to deal with a chipmunk infestation. It was terribly inaccurate and after I whittled down a few chipmunks with it I decided to see what else was available. I watched a Teds holdover video on the Benjamin marauder and ordered a .25 and it was fantastic. Got over 50 chipmunks in two days and the problem was over...except that I was hooked on PCP guns. Now I have three FX guns a Steyr and a Theoben rapid. It’s a serious disease that is really rewarding lol!

Besides the iconic Red Ryder as a kid, my Dad left me his HW90 after his passing. After paying homage to the man by taking out a few squirrels, I quickly realized why he loved airguns as he approached retirement. The man taught me everything I know about shooting powder, from skeet and trap to long range, but he never introduced me to air past the Red Ryder. I’m guessing he knew he was saving the best for last! Now I love air more than powder, but that also is because of the help of y’all here with PCP’s!!
