Skout So much happier now .... SKOUT Epoch is now .22 caliber !!!!

A big shout out to the crew at SKOUT !!! As one of the early purchasers of an epoch back in feburary of this year had paid nearly MSRP ( 3K ) for the only caliber at the time they could be had .. as a .30 cal. While it has been Fun and proven itself as a new to market platform, the .30 is for my use extreme overkill with honestly little need for such power :cautious:
We watched and waited for the smaller calibers to get sorted out and make it as an offering, while at the same time an @ $600 roll back on MSRP ... ouch !!!

So last week i reached back out to SKOUT and asked a simple Q .... Are you helping those out who purchased early Epochs in terms of perhaps some swag or product to offset the MSRP roll back ? ** now note that SKOUT has been supplying upgrade parts in retrofit at N/C all along and been just fantastic in taking care of any issues that have arisen .. CUDO's !!

Now the Q gets asked back, What are you needing / wanting ? Well, been waiting on .22 caliber all season & would love to get a conversion kit to take my .30 to .22 cal
WE CAN DO THAT !!! And sent me a 25" ( Oem length ) full conversion kit ( .22 Liner, Muzzle thimble, Transfer thimble, Silencer core, Probe, 30 shot magazine ) as well the new upgraded barrel clamp collar assembly !! All at No Charge :D

So a quick recap ... during early spring went about tweaking on the rifles internal set up ( Small valve calibration changes, transfer path mods and made up a smaller throat poppet seat ) These changes were played with back & forth with IMO some really worth while efficiency improvements as well getting a LOT quieter.
Now these changes I made did take away a tad bit of power ( At the normal HP reg setting ) requiring @ 150/200 psi greater for equal power output. As a .30 it still was a beast !! running no where near maxed out.

So today we slipped in the .22 cal components making no setting adjustments ... 1500 on HP & @ 125 on LP
Loaded up some 25.4 Monsters .... 870/875 Leaned on the HP 100 psi to 1600 psi & we get 900 fps !! Shot cycle a SNAP and just a mild Puff noise a muzzle ... SA-WEET !!!

Going to play with it some more on Sunday after the Clubs last FT match of the 2023 season. Then put it away for a few months as i heal up from shoulder surgery happening 1st of the week.

I GOT A .22 cal EPOCH NOW ... I'm so stoked !!!!

Sighs I hate yall Lols. Well my wallet hates yall. Just when I was thinking oh Ill wait till spring before getting one I see this. Now its a matter of ok do I open the wallet even with limited winter shooting here.

Its this kind of service that speaks VOLUMES to the company and the character of those running it. These are the types of places I like to spend my money and support. Now I'm just trying to determine what role this rifle would have to order accordingly.

Yes to all the above LOL. Seriously though, these are the questions I ask and chew on. While I want to support a superb company, and service, its alot of money to just toss at something.

I've got the 177 and hunter division field target covered. 22 caliber, I'm not totally sold on, other than options and availability of ammo. Though I might have to revisit it since 22 was used so much at the phoenix EBR match. This brings me back to the 25/30 as I chew on more.

The mag design appears unchanged from the .30 still using a contact shelf against the pellet at full length ( head & skirt ) and whatever amount of pre-tension you wish to use. 30 shots in .22 cal is really nice, but as we know the cumulative weight/mass of 30 and declining as used 18++ grain pellets is a fair bit.
* Only mod I plan to do will be the same as the .30 cal mags which had skirts hanging up when mag is cycling with a muzzle elevated position.
Can't see the .22 being any different with the skirts able to slide rearward against the cover plate.

Not saying an issue exists  just going to make sure and modify with the glued in o-ring keeping skirts off the cover and not hanging on the cover tab recess's being the length mag allows is in excess of length of projectiles one may shoot in .22 caliber.

Pic below is the .30 cal issue, hung up pellet is @ 10 o'clock having skirt hanging in corner of tab recess preventing cassette rotation.
Fix was gluing in a cut o-ring so cassette can still rotate but pellet skirts are kept inward the thickness of the o-ring and therefor can't hang up.

I’m just a few days away from becoming a Skout owner myself! Cant wait. It’s in route.
Definitely gonna be out of my comfort zone as I’ve been all about FX since 2018.
Still love my wildcats and impacts, but I’ve had my eye on the Skout since they first appeared
What caliber did you get Augie? Any color?

I’d say the mag issue is the biggest problem needing to be addressed at this point in time?

Just back from the SVFTC October match ... spent about 1/2 hour after the match trying JSB 25.4's at @ 900 fps, JSB 18's at @ 1045 fps and Alteros 32 grain slugs @ 865 fps.
All being at one setting ( 1600 / 125 ) just to give a quick shakedown at 100 / 115 yards seeing how the new OEM .22 cal barrel shot ?
In a word STELLAR !!!! It appears very much so a keeper showing very good consistency / accuracy.
