Some old RTI Priest love

A couple weeks ago I just had to take a step back from the two guns that have been consuming me. Not too long ago I sold an Impact that the buyer wanted tuned to shoot 33.95 grain pellets. I was shocked at how well and consistent they shot with the bonus of how hard they hit. Those pellets have been on my mind ever since but I just don’t own Impacts to shoot pellets. Enter my Priest. This gun has had multiple barrels and shot just about every kind of projectile since I bought it. Lately it’s just been a 25gr pellet gun. I decided it might be my .25 heavy pellet shooter. The CZ barrel did pretty well with them but it definitely preferred the original heavies. So I put a 600mm Superior on it and tensioned it with the mod. Over the years I’ve seen plenty about groups. Personally, 3-5 shots and I know what’s up but tonight I decided to torture myself with the anticipated drifter by shooting 10 shot groups at 75 yards. Once I found my zero, I went to work. Gun was set at 132b and shot 923-929fps. Biggest group out of 7 was .64” so I’m pretty pleased. Just figured I would post this because sometimes you don’t have to sell a good gun, just repurpose it.

how did you make the impact butt stock work pictures great idea want to make one

You watch, when I move to 100 yards the target will look like a grenade went off in front of it. I did discover something odd with my gun. Not sure if it’s the nature of the gun or the really heavy pellets. I usually set my guns in the 3-5% below max range. This gun performs its best and is very stable from full fill to refill shooting about 10fps under max speed. I’m guessing my hammer and weight might be a little light for the heavies and the speed I wish to shoot them.

I’m resurrecting this topic because I have an update. It’s something I’ve been chasing for a very long time. In 2019 I originally built the gun as a straight slugger. It was good with a TJ barrel on it but I missed shooting pellets out of it so I put it back to a pellet gun with pellet friendly settings. Then I got the idea i wanted it to do both so I built the FX barrel for it. That initially failed because the pellets were great at one setting but I had to adjust everything for the slugs to be good. So back to the CZ barrel and pellet settings. At the beginning of this topic the gun went back under the knife to be a heavy pellet shooter. I achieved fantastic accuracy as it shows in the pictures above. Recently out of boredom I decided to try a different approach with my reg vs hammer settings and see if the gun was still as accurate. It was. That opened the door to me trying slugs again without touching a thing. I finally did it. My gun shoots 34gr pellets and 34gr slugs around 915fps. Both with great accuracy and I don’t have to touch a thing. About 6 clicks left and 4 down is all I have to do when jumping between projectiles. I’ve only tested to 75 yards but neither projectile has an advantage in accuracy. I always believed this guns platform was my best chance of accomplishing this. Yes, my Impacts are sending slugs faster but there is no way I can switch to a magazine full of pellets and just keep shooting. The slug tunes and a pellet tune for those guns are miles apart. I wasn‘t going to post anything but I thought that some guys might understand how cool it would be to have a gun that shoots both without touching anything. My trajectories aren’t even that different. A little better with the slugs of course.

You said it, Frank: It is indeed very cool to have a gun where you can switch between slugs and pellets without monkeying with the settings — just swap magazines and keep hitting.
COOL! 😄

After all the time, effort, and money that you have put into shooting and modding a stable full of guns, it's nice you got to harvest something like that. Congrats! 👍🏼

So the new pellet/slug results are with the CZ barrel..is that the 20" CZ in .25?
