Some RAW questions, looking to purchase

I currently have the RAW HM1000x with LRT stock in .25 that I spent several weeks reviewing. This was the first RAW that I had the privilege of field using from both the bench and in hunting situations. The main differences between one acquired a year ago and the ones put out by Airforce now are the stock and the fact they only use one size breech. Martin still is involved with almost every aspect of the gun. He still does the barrel prep, puts together the breeches and inspects each and every regulator before it goes into the rifle.RAW originally had 3 breeches that were used for each of the calibers, the main difference is plenum size. For easier manufacturing they use the .357 breech for all calibers, this is a good thing as it has the largest plenum. The LRT stock has a small notch that allows easy access to the hammer spring for fine tuning the rifle, I was getting 62fpe using the NSA 34gr slugs that shot phenomenally well with the polygonal barrel. In fact it's somewhat of a rarity to find a gun that will shoot both pellets and slugs so well. The LRT stock is pretty lightweight and makes the gun shoulder pretty well, the buttstock area is actually hollowed out a bit that brings the weight down considerably. I actually found the weight of the gun to be pretty dang good considering I carried it for over 20 miles over several days in the field. The stock is what I would call delicate and definitely not the best to use under rugged field conditions, best suited to a bench environment. To remove the stock the bottle NEEDS to be removed or the small ears towards the forearm can crack, after the bottle and stock is removed the regulator is very easy to get to, unthreads from the front of the lower breech. The RAW is actually a very simple gun to work on, not much to it at all. One thing to note that I unfortunately didn't learn until AFTER is that the gun can fill to 250 BAR although the gauge only reads to 230 BAR lol Kinda important to know right? Everywhere I read stated 230 BAR fill but I thought it was strange because the bottle is 250 BAR fill. I will enclose the video review I did that includes pretty much all the details of the gun.

PROS

  • Amazing trigger
  • Easy to tune
  • Good shot count
  •  Accurate with both pellets and slugs
  • Great finish
  • Lightweight
  • Foster fill (no probe to lose)
  • Powerful

CONS

  • Loud
  • Delicate stock (Hopefully a tactical stock will come) *wink *wink
  • Needs gauge that reads to 250BAR

Hopefully this may help!😊

@Crosman999 - the gauge on the .25 LRT that I received a few weeks ago reads 250bar, so I think this is a non-issue for current production X rifles.

I also broke off my ears at one point during my power tuning efforts. The regulator can actually unscrew with the bottle, and there was no way to get a wrench on the reg to hold it in place. It's possible to shoot the rifle a few times and unscrew to reduce pressure, but rather than risk defacing my valve I just chose to break the ears off in a controlled manner. Fortunately, the aesthetics weren't affected - given the way the LRT stocks were designed.

On a side note, I too thought 230bar was the maximum fill - in fact, the user manual that I received states 230bar..

I followed this until I got word that the reg could handle a 250bar fill.

Oh man you broke them off, I understand exactly what your talking about and that probably hurt. I can see how one could sand it down to make it look alright. I'm glad you received one with the proper gauge because I did come down on them about it, I was a bit embarrassed after stating 230 BAR in my review but I only went by what I knew. What kind of performance are you getting??

I'm getting some pretty ridiculous power! My reg was set to shoot the 34gr heavies at 880-890, the HST didn't buy me too much more (I was filling to 230 like you were though). I wanted to see how far that I could push it with the stock parts, so I figured out the reg adjustment, measured it end to end (73.74mm from the factory), played around a little turn at a time until eventually it went down to around ~73.42mm. That gave me a little under 165bar. I've since scaled it way back.

I had to add a few washers for pre-tension, after all was said and done, my LabRadar and chony reported some crazy numbers. The highest with 34gr JSBs was 990fps (74FPE), and 1003 with the JSB MKIIs. For fun, I shot some 25gr JSBs and Murphy's law kicked in, where twice I heard the crack of them breaking the sound barrier, but my LabRadar said "sorry, I didn't see that" on both of them!!! The highest I clocked one was at 1117fps, but my LabRadar seemed to have issues that day with the 25gr pellets, specifically.

I saw your video shooting NSAs @100y, I was hoping to be able to get out and get some similar groups as you did. Unfortunately, the wind here in the PNW has been *brutal*! I've only made it out to my usual long range spot a few times since I got it, and each time the wind has been unfavorable 😭

Anyhow, didn't mean to long wind that or thread hijack! Nick Nielsen told me the 39gr NSAs shoot really well out of his friend's .25 HM1000X, so I ordered 1000 to test. Another member here is going to send me some custom slugs with different diameters to try as well (weighing in the low 40's to upper 40's). I have another thread in the PCP section that I'll update with my results. Hoping for calm winds this weekend, but we'll see what happens 😎
