Picked up a carbon fiber barrel shroud at Jefferson State Air Rifles and was pleasantly surprised at the difference it made! Now the gun is next to silent!
I'm using one of DonnyFL's Tanto moderators, his smallest in the arsenal, and although it quieted the gun down quite a bit, the 700 still had a bit of bark to it when shot. I shelled up the $40 for the shroud and two rubber grommets and in three weeks it arrived. Apparently they had to order some more CF tubing. At any rate, it just slid right on and since my neighbors are assholes of the highest order...I took it out and shot it immediately. Bingo!!! just hammer slap and pellet impact. The shroud made the 700 as quiet as any one would want.
I feel $40 is a lot for what you get in equipment, but if you take into consideration the noise elimination and no police coming to the door...it was a bargain.
I do believe if you order one of their 1/2 X 20 adapters for the gun...it's pre-drilled to allow air to escape into the shroud...you could probably make your own shroud, it's just a tube with a grommet at each end to seal in the air to the shroud. The tube is 20 mm OD, or 0.82" outside diameter. Length is 8.75 in length (including the protruding grommet lip at either end).
Well, there you have it my friends. If you have similar anally-oriented neighbors, as do I, then this little tube will save you a lot of grief.
Regards,
Kindly 'Ol Uncle
