Well Moses of Grayling I hear ya. I guess a big part of my opinion on this is laminate stocks are likely not high grade timber laminated together and then dyed funny colors. Not sure why I would pay extra for something that wouldn't nessasarily make the cut in its natural state. It's great marketing, but I would spend extra money on a special edition that is well....special
I’m with you. I love beautiful Walnut and blued steel. Never cared for laminate. Many do though and as much as things cost these days, the custom stock is really a bargain. If bought right.
I realize cost is a factor for sure. Manufacturer's could expand outside of walnut for options though. There are a number of highly figured woods suitable for stock making available. Some with better price points, and availability. Myrtle wood is beautiful stuff, and has the added benefit of being grown/harvested in Oregon...and I do like a good made in USA pitch.

Simple. When the good late Dr. Beeman imported the Weihrauch brand with gorgeous Gaudy Beechwood stocks. 1980’s.
