So I have been messing around with Strelok Pro and apparently spin drift needs to be calculated into long range (100 yards) shooting. Does anyone take this into account with long ranges?
I use strelok for long range ( 100 yards) and i don't put the spin drift into account i think there is somewhere on the setting where you can just check off putting spin drift into calculation. I don't think it's far enough to efect it. If theres no wind i can takes shots out to a hundred yards and not have my horizontal POI effected. Leo PS. I'm using strelok pro
i can not imagine it has any efect in regards to airguns , as there are a WHOLE LOT other things that afect the acuracy that are mutch more important . what i can imagion tho is that it has more impact on the larger cal air rifles
What caliber are is everyone shooting? I'm wondering if air rifle barrel twist rate differs between manufacturers and if FPS amount plays into the equation. I'm using Strelok Pro and I just found the spin drift adjustment as well as the twist rate adjustment. I was surprised to see a difference in projected POI. This change could play in wind calculations also.
Even I use Sterlok pro with the cricket in 25. The pellets are JSB. On the cricket basis my research the twist rate seems to be 17.7 inches per turn. I am hoping this is accurate. Its shooting hole in hole at 60 yards. Plan to try 110 yards this weekend. Spin drift I have kept unchecked. Will let you know if the accuracy changes or if spin drift comes into the picture. I don't think it matters unless you are shooting much longer distances.
Some long range targets shot in quiet air with no spin drift accounted for. .22 JSBs from BSA Hornet 183 yd
This shot for computing the actual spin rate of an FX Elite ST .25 barrel at 200 yards
.22 RWS Excalibre/ FX Tarantula at 300 yards.
>25 BSA Hornet and 25.4 gr JSB KIngs at 300 yards. This 300 yd group landed in the middle of the target board
However there are many factors that could conspire to seemingly negate a legitimate spin drift so I'm open to being convinced of the phenomenon with drag stabilized diabolo pellets. There is no question of its presence with bullets .......... Kind regards, Harry.
I am blown away by those groups, Harry, as I am still trying to put them together at 100yds and you're doing it at 2 & 3 times that distance, what can I say but good shooting
I tip my hat to you on those extreme distance shots with the grouping and 22 cal. Good hands / good eyes. Potential energy at that range is nil with the JSB pellet and weight.
