FWB Sport

Bought first one from Airguns of Arizona. Had to send it back. They did not have any more to sell. Later I bought one from Flying Dragons with a custom spring guide. WOW! My favorite breakbarrel. I own 11 breakbarrel and ALL are high end. This is the best by far. Fit and finish AND accuracy like a TX200.

What’s the fascination? I am a huge Feinwerkbau fan and always have a couple FWB 10 meter guns. I clearly remember every reviewer complaining of buzz and a less than smooth shot cycle. It’s only since Feinwerkbau sent the model off to the dust bin that everyone is waxing poetic. Is it the unattainable thing? Every time I think about picking one up I read a period review or two and loose interest. Am I missing something?

They wanted $900 for them. Aside from that they didn't need a single thing an HW95 doesn't need. They're snappy guns but some people like that. They're basically better handling HW95s and definitely better looking.

I bought number 6 of the last that AOA had for sale in the spring. It buzzed like a doorbell, and so I had Motorhead tear it down. Yes, the spring guide was undersized, and a custom guide was fitted. He mentioned when I picked it up that it was dry. As in no lube. He fixed that, and I will be testing it out tomorow.

I tried an FWB Sport. Bought it new from Champions choice maybe 4-5 years ago? Beautiful rifle, long and slender. Awesome trigger, accurate, for a springer. But the dang thing only shot 7 or 8 fpe and every shot sounded like a hammer getting dropped on steel scraps. Talked to Champions choice and figured maybe it was defective. They exchanged it for a other one. Also beautiful. Also accurate. Also sounded like a hammer getting dropped on a pile of scrap iron. Chrono'd this one and it was also around 8fpe. Sent. It back for a full refund.

I live at 5600feet and shoot other springers. I lose a couple fpe with them, but never nearly half of rated power. Dunno if I happened to randomly get two defective ones. But the FWB Sport was a springer that I wanted to love but couldn't with that horrific shot cycle and drastically below advertised fpe.

Interesting. Mine banged and twanged like Holy Hell too, but the fpe was always around 13 to 14. If it were not for the impeccable workmanship and finish I would have been pretty disappointed. However, as Sqwirl said, these FWBs need what almost every other springer needs out of the box, some fine tuning and TLC. In my case the only part that has received attention was a better fitting guide that a kind and generous AGN member made up for me. My '95 and R9, both lovely shooting guns, have had much more time, parts, money and work spent on them to get them where they are today. If you also consider that the Sport was scarily accurate from the fist 1/2 dozen shots, and has not changed, I believe it was a bargain at $500, and if a new seal had been needed, a bargain at $530.

At the initial $900 price tag, the sucker would have gone straight back to the seller

The proof of the pudding would appear to be the sheer delight that most owners are experiencing after some shooting, working time and tweaking.
It should also be said that there are a number of owners out there that did not have any of the noise and slamming issues, and whose guns shot well from the get go.

It came in this afternoon. Champions Choice had it listed as used, but if this gun is used, I am blind. Original box, papers, ect, not a scratch or mark on it anywhere.
Update. Took it out for a few shots while the internet and streaming TV was expericing an outage. Windage was just about perfect, shooting low with factory irons so cranked it up a bit, and was hitting a med size disk on a dueling tree regularly. Neighbors grandson, about ten years old came over to talk so we talked and I let him shoot it a few times.

Like I said new, and still hard to brake the lockup to cock, shot cycle about like I expected, not the smoothest but not what I call harsh, no twang.

I finally got around to shooting the FWB Sport and the HW98. I had Motorhead of Northern Cal tune both. The FWB Sport is an entirely different rifle post tune. It is accurate and a joy to shoot. I used the HN Barracuda Match 10.65 grain pellet. If you bought one of these rifles, consider having it tuned.I had a ARH piston seal installed. I used the factory spring, as it was mostly new.

I just got a Gehmann 590 compact receiver sight in and mounted it on my Sport, along with a Gehmann 510 adjustable iris with a 30mm extension tube. The gun had previously been zeroed with the factory irons, and when I got the Gehmann units they all lined up with those factory irons. Tried a quick bit of shooting, first at a soda can at 10 meters, good hit, then some swingers on a dueling tree at same distance. Then I tried some swingers out at about 50 yards. Three side by side, ones on outside a square with bottom inside corner cut off to allow for a smaller diamond shaped one to hang between them. First shot at the diamond hit the left swinger, as did the next couple of shots, so I gave the sight a couple of up clicks and some to the right and then it was a go. Had a soda can there also and bouncing it around was easy.
The gun is rather hard to cock if I try to just push the barrel down or tap it with my hand but I did find a way to cock it easily, I was shooting from a patio chair one leg crossed, left elbow on leg for support for hand on forearm. I simply held barrel near the muzzle with left hand, right hand on pistol grip and tapped the end of the forearm on my leg and it unlocks easliy.

How about a pic with the Gehmann

I recently purchased the Sport from Champions Choice. Shipped to me in 48 hrs. This to me is a magnum springer compared to a R1 which I thought was harsh and now is much more pleasant. How ever the 34's are still harsh. Outside of that it's a decent rifle on par with the HW's. Fit and finish wise. Am hoping it will settle down the more I use it. Looked to me that it was hardly used for the gun itself almost spotless save for a slight mark from scope mount or diopter. About 350 pells through it so far and gets best groups from heavy weights. Oh and Champions Choice are truly top notch in my book.
