Spotting Scope Question

I think you need more info.what for, what price range etc.My advice is get the best you can afford for your needs.
Go to the "bird watching" groups ,they have a lot of knowledge.
Hight power does not mean anything unless you have the optics that can take advanage of it....also remember the coating on the lens, fully multi coated lens will bring in more light as does a bigger bell....the best for the money is a Pentax, some Nikons....you got to know what you are looking for and you have not given enough information for me to be more helpful, sorry.

from personal experience, if your budget is on the generous side and you are packing this for some distance where compactness is a requirement, the leupold mark 4 12-40x has worked very well and is well proven option.
on the budget, full sized 20-60x spotting scope side, i can recommend the relatively "cheap" copy svbony reviewed here.

you can always call doug or the guys at cameralandny.com and ask them for recommendations in your price range and requirements.

Only one way to tell, here is what I did. I went to a store located in the country who sold all the big names. I wanted to see 6mm bullet hole at 500 yards. I took a shot target. I located a telephone pole almost 600 yards away. I was able to look through 6 top end scopes. Took a friend along, we both looked and did not discuss what we were seeing. I went with the idea to but a Swaroski. I wrote by pick on a piece of paper and had my buddy do the same. We compared notes, we both picked Zeiss. So my Ziess Diascope 85 has served be well for over 12 years. Now, here is the rest of the story. I also have a B&L/ Bushnell Dicover I think is 15 to 60. For 90 percent of what I need it works fine, its 40 years old and was 150.00. Will it work for 500 yd Bullet holes in all conditions, NO. But to get that little extra was an extra 3000.00 dollars, worth it to me but maybe not to everyone. I see lots of guys with 500.00 to 800.00 dollar scopes trying to do the same as me but 99 percent of the time they are worthless. So, know what you require and test for what you need with your eyes, only way you can make a good decision, for you. I had to drive 4 hours to do the test I did, it was worth it.

I had one of those B&L Discoverer scopes for years. As I got older I just could not seem to focus it, so got a Kowa TSN 82, It shows anything I want to see, downside is that it is big, a big front lens brings in a lot of light, but is bulky.

The Kowas are very nice. I have a friend with one, I like it. No the Discoverer does not have the quality of glass as the top end scopes but often top end is not need. 150.00 vs 3000.00, the 150.00 is a pretty good deal.
