N/A Spring compressed

You aren't going to hurt a decent spring by leaving it cocked for a bit. That being said, I just crack the barrel just enough to load a pellet. When it's time to shoot it takes literally a second to cock it and go with a pellet already loaded.
Was thinking if that was possible. Guess it is, a good way to go.

well leaving it cocked for a day shouldn't hurt a bit..I wouldn't think twice about having a gun ready to go nearby for a pest.. like a ground squirrel.. like was said you don't always have time and sometimes movement or cocking will alert your prey..
just something I wonder.. so I can understand not all springs are equal.. so here's what I always wondered myself.. so your car is on springs.. do you jack up the body when you park it to take the compression off the springs.. how about when I used to do excavation,id leave a 12,000 machine on the trailer when it was not working on a job.. and the trailer was rated for 12,000 so it was basically maxed out.. let's take a engine valve spring..in your car you can pretty much be sure some are compressed when it off..
now to be clear I don't just cock my spring break barrel and leave it, but I honestly don't know why it would damage it seeing others are compressed or loaded and last a decent amount of time..I also myself don't like to leave a projectile in the chamber.. and my PCP guns are always decocked..I do know that springs take a "set" being fully compressed, but it's over quite a long time..
so I'd actually like to have someone explain to me so I might understand why airguns are not supposed to be left with the spring compressed but a lot of other things are..
myself I'm not sold on gas ram guns.. two reasons.. all the gas rams go bad over time, some last longer than others I suspect quality.. and the second reason goes with the first.. parts availability when it does go bad.. I've changed quite a few gas rams on vehicles..
but I have never shot a gas ram guns, so likely I'm missing something and they probably are smoother.

Leaving a springer cocked a few hours wont hurt it. Leaving it cocked a few day can. Some can be left cocked for weeks. It depends on the spring material, how close to coil bind it is and how long it's left cocked. I've had some go soft after a couple days and others that didn't. It's a topic that gets discussed adnausium. Look here for more information.

ad nausium , there was (again) a discussion about this just a week ? ago.

Have tried in the "search" box about compressed spring, and the discussion you are talking about did not come up.
Rather than being nausieted, should have just pointed out the thread. And yes, ad nauseam!

ok i just searched in the traditional rifles and did not find any title . i did say i found a Winchester 800 from a guy throwing it away and it had been cocked and loaded (no safety) for at least 3 years and shot great . No problem .

I really like the very informative posts, like the one about one getting tossed out, and the link to the other thread, think I saw about a test Tom Gaylord did in another thread..I wish I knew how to find stuff and seems like it would be nice to like group the threads together that are about similar things.. course I can't imagine how much information is available in here..
I've read Tom Gaylord back when he was publishing in paper air gun things and I have always enjoyed his articles. I used to get them in the mail 25-30 years ago..I suppose if he still does it that it's somewhere on the Internet now.. seems like everything is going electronic.
does anyone know if he is on this forum? I do occasionally see a article of his at pyramid air and I also got to read his report on shot show 2024..I'd post a link to it but I have no clue where I saw it.
thank you all

There is a way to bookmark a thread. Check out the help at the bottom of the page.
you are so helpful, I have been trying to find out what the follow button does on a person's profile..I clicked it thinking that I would see more posts by that person but nothing changed other than if I go to that persons profile it says following. there's several people who really seem to have knowledge about a wide variety and, well I was hoping to see more of their other posts.. normally I only see what like 4 ongoing threads?

I'll try to find that.. are you using a computer or phone? I rarely use my computer and mostly use my Moto 5G phone.
thank you
I can't find the bookmark anywhere . I'm using the app.. but I have two AGN apps 🤔 and they look different.. I think the first one is when they announce it and later on I clicked the bar at the top advertising the app and now I'm not sure which one opens or if they are the same.. the Internet can be challenging
