A thought... Set up red lamps/flood lights if you can. If it's an area with fixtures or power you can get 2 (red) LED flood bulbs for ~$20... If not there are solar options.
A few years back a similar discussion come up elsewhere.. Anyways, the individual went with a solar option (multi color unit, but they used red, may have been motion activated but I forget exactly now) and was happy with the results. Out of curiosity I purchased red led flood bulbs for existing fixtures. Critters can sense red light somewhat, but after a night or two of leaving lights on it'll be business as usual for the most part...
I recommend a bait station with a safe backstop
Or you can just go lamping with lights of your choice. I recommend headlamp and scope mounted light at minimum. You still may see activity with regular lights.
If you have the funds, night vision or thermal sounds good... But I'd run them on a pcp rifle.
