Spring turkey season starts Saturday in California…where are people planning to go to in North California?

So I for one…intend on going to an area north of Knoxville wildlife area. It’s called cache creek wilderness (south of Sacramento). For the fall turkey season, I went to knoxville and my brother ran into a guy who claimed in his 20 years of hunting in Knoxville…he has never seen a turkey there. We never saw a glimpse of one either. Only spotted some quail and a coyote that was attracted to the calls I was making. The coyote spotted us from 200 yards away and scrammed out of there. The expert told him the best bet is in cache creek wilderness which is a little further north of where we were at.

Anyone want to go as a team and scout out separate areas? I’ll be using an FX IMPACT MK2 and my brother will be using a 12 gauge shotgun.

Also, this will be my second hunt in Northern California. If there is a native who knows good Turkey hunting spots, I’d appreciate guidance.

I've only started turkey hunting last spring and was very successful in lower elevation. Will be missing out this spring turkey hunt due to health.
Thanks for the info. What we did was hike up in elevation. There wasn’t many lower elevation areas.

What did you do after you shot the turkey? Pluck and gut it there or take it home and gut? Is a cooler necessary? I asked the warden of that area if it was fine to gut and pluck there, and he said it is.

Yup the lower in elevation you go the less hunting ground you'll find. That's just what california is.

Which ever way you prefer, in the field or at home. Me, I threw the turkey in the truckbed and headed home, no cooler.

CA Turkeys are generally concentrated around residential areas due to availability of food and water. I would be more successfully with my car around my house than any guns on any public land. 🤨🤨🤣🤣

This guy is earning extra cash at one of our office buildings as security guard, near downtown sacramento.

Call me a quitter but Turkey hunting is just too frustration around here when you have to drive pass huge flocks to get to nothing! 🤣🤣🤣

Good luck out there!

Edit: try reach out to oakhonor for some pointers, he is an avid hunter in norcal/east Bay Area closer to you.

There are some wildlife areas that offer decent turkey hunting in Norcal. Also and if you have a boat, some areas along the sac river and feather river have turkeys.
