Springer air rifle for $300 or less

Seems like I remember seeing some Sig Sauer ASP20 rifles on sale for 299 before Christmas....not sure if they can be had for that anymore. It was one that I was and still am interested in. I opted for the Parrus just because it seems like a great value, (which I still think it is), and I figured it would scratch the itch while I did more analysis on which $350-$400 gun i would end up with.

I'm pulling the trigger on the Parrus. Thoughts on pellet choice, mount, rings and scope?

Make sure you get a barrel droop compensation mount like the RWS Lockdown or similar. Scope needs to be able to stand up to the recoil of a magnum springer. It will take some break-in before the rifle settles down and you can really determine which pellets it likes, so I would just shoot something cheap until you get some rounds through it. My .177 does fine with Crossman Premier 7.4 Gr

Thanks for the advice on the pellets. The good pellets are def way more pricey than the Walmarts, so I'll stop by and grab a few tins to run through it before upgrading.

I didn't add the scope mount to my order because it looks like there are a couple different sizes to choose from to match up with the chosen scope. Are there any scopes at Walmart worth trying out?

What kind of things are needed to properly maintain these air rifles? What kind of maintenance is needed? How often should they be broken down and cleaned?

Brand new, should these be broken down and cleaned/polished/tuned etc?

The description says, "It has a 1/2 inch UNF threaded muzzle". Does this mean that the front optic unscrews so that a silencer can be installed in its place?

Thanks!

Rws lockdown mount and a UTG 3-12 or 4-16. I am trying a Vortex Crossfire 6-18 on my RWS48 now and like it a lot. I am one of the few that doesn't like side focus.

Those scopes look nice but they cost more than the rifle lol.

Buy once, cry once. You need a good scope with a warranty on a springer. There is a Centerpoint 4-16 ao at walmart that will work for a little while, but who knows how long.

Pellet choice, yes there r pellet sample packs from H&N and JSB. There are 3 sizes of the H&N Field Target Trophy ( FTT )14.66 grain pellets in 3 head sizes,,,5.53 / 5.54 / & 5.55. 1 of theses may work. My guns did'nt like any of those. My 2 spring air-rifles like the JSB 14.3 and 15.89 grain pellets best. 1 also like the H&N Spitzkugel 16gr pellet. Cross-man sells these pellets that come in a plain brown box that many people say they do well, unlike the wal-mart plastic clam packaged pellets on their shelves which r (just bad).

I agree. Your posts on this rifle "made" me buy one.

Now buy yourself a P17 for $35 and a decent scope a couple tins of pellets. You will have a couple of the most accurate and best shooting guns for under $300

Hope you like a non-adjustable 5 pound trigger pull that feels like dragging a nail across concrete, 'cause that's what you're gonna get with that rifle. Or, you can void the warranty immediately and tear it apart and replace the trigger spring.

I'm not worried about a warranty. Is there a writeup on this?

Already have a P17. It's a great shooter.
